I love British accents.

Whaddup gangstas! How’s your Indulgence Friday been?

Mine has been AWESOME, it is sunny beautiful here in my neck of the woods again and I am in lurve with the smell of spring. It makes me think of flip flops, skirts, puddles, and drawing with chalk on the sidewalk (yes I know am I way too old to still be doing that:)).

But because it was so sunshiney beautiful, I could not resist going on a run outside with the Padre. It was sunshiney but incredibly windy, aka we went super slow but it is totally fine it rocked and my calves are screaming. my Dad whooped my butt, did I mention he is a marathoner? If you would like to hear about my idol, aka the best Dad in the world, check out this post. But grab the kleenex first.

Running Outfit #1:

Then Padre told me how ch-ch-ch-chilly it was, so I put on my Under Armour and the Padre’s Spibelt. This thing rocks, I put my Droid in it so we could use the My Tracks app (which is SO cool by the way, it is like a free Garmin:)), but I forgot to hit “record” so we had no idea how long we ran!

Groooarrr all I know is that is was a killer 67 minutes and it was awesome:) Enjoy these pictures, feel free to giggle and point at me showing off my Spibelt but just know that you are jealous you do not have a professional runner’s fanny pack too:)

Whaddup fanny pack!

Oh and a MySpace-y picture, as per usual.

Haaaaaay Under Armour:)

Oh and then I chugged a hugh jass Brendan Brazier Thrive diet smoothie. I love him, he is a god.

Slash since you are all dying for the chocolate cake recipe, I thought I should tell you…

The Indulgence Friday recipe will be up tomorrow, I was recruited for an emergency babysitting job (I am a saint I know), so unforch I cannot eat/finish the chocolatey deliciousness that is currently chilling in my fridge, but you will have a delicious fudgy chocolate recipe tomorrow just you wait:)

So I am currently sitting on the giant gorgeous white couch con a million afghan blankets, the lappytop, and a remote that gives me access to any and every channel that exists. And watching Two and a Half Men. Anyone know a good show on Friday nights? I have every channel in the world and I do not know what to do with myself!

Wait that is a lie, now I am watching Wizards of Waverly Place, I am a sucker for all things Disney, it’s fine I’m a child inside. Maybe that’s why I am such a good babysitter?

I love babysitting:)

Did I mention the people I am babysitting for are British? Listening to them speak is like liquid gold flowing through your ears, it lulls my pretty little self to sleep like a lullaby (in a good way). I could literally listen to them talk all day, if ears could eat, British accents would be chocolate🙂

And they are my next door neighbors, which means that our houses are almost identically laid out. it is freaky deaky, it is like walking into my own house. The entire upstairs is the exact same format as mine, so it is tempting to walk into my “room” on the way to the bathroom but I resist:)

Don’t forget to send in your Mission: I Feel Pretty pictures! And if you missed my last post, I am going to be in the D.C. area Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and I would love to have a bloggy meetup with anyone in the area!:)

Have a good evening bloggy boos! See you tomorrow:)

Is it sunny where you are? How have you been enjoying the sunshine?

YES, and running and skipping in puddles:)

What is your favorite show to watch?

Lie to Me, Glee, anything on Disney, Grey’s, Desperate Housewives, Greek, Jersey Shore duh.

How are you celebrating Indulgence Friday?

CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE:)

Would you like some hummus with your bowl of raisins?

Good evening bloggy boos!! How are you?

This is an odd time for me to be blogging…it feels so weird. Rooooooarr.

So, I am going to make this a quick one because I am starting writing this post at 8:41 PM and I am very tired aka I am going to bed as soon as I hit publish. Let’s see how fast I can write this post. Okay ready set GO!

Firstly, I have to thank you all so so so much for all of your beautiful comments on my last post!! You have no idea how much it means to me, I cried while I read every single one of your comments, and I will be responding to them as soon as I have a free moment and am not asleepy weepy in my warm bed:)

My Dad read the post and absolutely loved it, and he loved every single one of your comments. I bet you a million bucks he cried while he read them but he would never admit that to me so thank you for making my Daddy’s heart smile🙂

After he read it, he came downstairs and we had the most special daddy-daughter hug moment there ever was. I cried obviously and we talked about our upcoming college trip to D.C. and all of the fun things we will do together like run past the White House every morning. But more on that at the end:)

Also, keep the Mission: I Feel Pretty pictures coming!! You are all so beautiful, I cannot even tell you how happy it makes me that y’all are realizing how beautiful you really are and celebrating it! Can we all be best friends and have a sleepover please and talk about food and makeup and men and watch Mean Girls?

p.s. If you are ever feeling down about yourself, not being kind to the Little You in you, or feeling downright sad or bad about you or your body, do NOT hesitate to send me an e-mail!

I love receiving e-mails from you guys and helping you through hard times, it helps me to keep myself thinking good thoughts and it makes my heart so warm and fuzzy to help others! The beautiful thing about blogging is that we can all support each other, we never have to be alone:)

IMG_3726

Also, if you ever come to New York State or the East Coast at all for that matter it will happen, I will be sure of it, we will all teleport to the same location and party hardy with tons and tons of candy and raisins.

SPEAKING OF RAISINS the shortage has been replenished!! You can just imagine how skipdiddlydoo happy I am:)

BUT, unforch I have been having tummy problems and my Madre thinks it is from the sulfites in the redonk amounts of balsamic vinegar I consume every day, which is a valid point I googled it (thank you WebMD). So, I will be going without balsamic vinegar for the next few days and I do not know what I am going to do with myself.

Does anyone know of a balsamic vinegar that does not contain any sulfites?? Please let me know because I am dying, I do not think you understand, I put balsamic vinegar on EVERYTHING. Hummus, salads, grains, beans, anything with raisins, you get the idea.

Oh, and the title came about because as I was eating my third bowl of hummus, buckwheat, and raisins tonight, I realized that it was mostly raisins.

I think I have an addiction people, I need to find a Raisins Anonymous or something this could get dangerous.

—————————————————————————————————

Okay, first things first.

I made popped amaranth!

IMG_3774

Yeahhhhhh boiiiii

Shmelled just like popcorn!:) And I love the shmell of popcorn. Yumshky.

(That is what I would sound like if I had a lithp that made “sh” sounds instead of “th”, except I don’t have a lisp I just like to talk like that)

And chickadees, this was embarrassingly easy. I was really intimidated by the idea after reading about it in Brendan Brazier’s Thrive and on The Edible Perspective, but you will laugh when you see how easy it was.

First, heat up a saucepan on medium-high heat. Bee tee dubs, make sure you have a lid or your amaranth will pop all ova tha place, but Imeann if you’re into that kind of thing and cleaning up messes then don’t bother.

Measure out a couple of tablespoons (do it 2 or so tablespoons at a time, it burns easily), pour it in, pop on the lid, and shake the pan back and forth for about 15 seconds.

At this point I turn off the heat and check them to see if they need to pop more, if they do then I turn the heat back on and do another five seconds or so. Usually this is enough time though if the heat is on high enough.

Pour into a tupperware and refrigerate for up to a week!

About to be popped.

IMG_3767

Success!

IMG_3768

In my cereal bowl, duh.

IMG_3777

I mixed some up with chia seed gel, cinnamon, stevia, and hemp milk. And topped with rasps, as per usual.

IMG_3782

I really did not like the texture of this. Maybe it was the chia seed gel or the fact that I used hemp milk?

I am used to a more thick, chewy breakfast mixture (I’m looking at you, cookie dough), and this was WAY too liquidy. Icky! Made my tummy feel gross.

But, if you are a cereal person which I SOMETIMES am, but only if it is not soggy, then this is for you:)

I also had the popped amaranth with my lunch, coated in delicious balsamic vinegar (sad face) and tons of hummus and raisins.

It was delicious and crunchy, and added a fun toasty flavor to the mixture that reminded me of sushi rice! Which is weird, but maybe the balsamic added a soy-sauce like flavor.

—————————————————————————————————

Next up, today’s outfit! I actually put effort into my outfit today, surprise surprise, and I even washed my hair. Holy moly wait I made an effort to look good today?!

Don’t get too excited though, this is not going to happen every day;) I had an internship interview after school for nutrition and it went really well:) I am so excited to start it this summer and tell you all about it!

Anywho, the outfit. It will be in the form of more classy MySpace-esque pictures, get used to it people:)

IMG_3793

Why I always make this face when I take pictures of myself, I honestly don’t know. I like the way it makes my face muscles feel though, I know I am weird.

IMG_3796

Kneeling because my mirror is not up on the wall, it is propped on the floor because I am too cheapo/lazy to mount it on the wall:)

Everything is Forever21 except for the tank top which is Delia’s, and the fuzzy socks which are a la mi Madre🙂 I think she got them at Old Navy though, they are so cute and fuzzy and have hearts on them! They keep my feetsies very toasty in the winter.

Wait breaking news…TODAY IS WAS A WHOLE 48 DEGREES OUTSIDE!! You have no idea how happy this made me…it smelled like spring. You know the shmell that is just so fresh and skippidy and makes you think of Easter bunnies and skirts and sandals? Yep, I smelled the good smell today and it made my day a million times better:)

—————————————————————————————————

Nextly, look at the adorable Valentime’s Day gifts my parents gave me! They are so cute, I was smiling ear to ear when I found these on my placemat in the morning wrapped up in pink wrapping paper. They know me too well:)

Loofah on a stick.

IMG_3730

Remember when my loofah broke? Uh yeah, I have been in dire need of a new one ever since. Madre to the rescue!! I love this, and it is eco-friendly which rocks too:)

Dr. Bronner’s!

IMG_3734

This guy is a soap genius, and this smells so minty fresh and wakes me up first thing in the morning! Plus the ingredients are natural and fresh, except for the sodium hydroxide, I do not know how I feel about putting an NaOH2 compound on my body because I have no idea what it does but at least I know its formula (thank you AP Biology!).

And lastly, the best. gift. ever.

IMG_3758

Yes, those are PINK travel utensils that snap together. I did not know how to contain my excitement, when I brought them to school Tuesday I was showing them off to anyone and everyone. Obviously it is my job to spread the snap-together excitement.

IMG_3759

I have no idea how the ‘rents found these, but if you would really like to know just shoot me an e-mail and I will gladly ask the Madre for you:)

—————————————————————————————————

And LASTLY, this is what I found in my pocket yesterday:

IMG_3789

That would be a shriveled Carrot Candy Corn.

Remember Carrot Balls and Baseball Barrots?

Well, this was a carrot that was shaped EXACTLY like a candy corn, and I put it in my pocket to remember to take a picture of it, but instead the jeans went in the wash with the carrot and it ended up like this.

Hahahhahaha, bad blogger:)

But lezzbehonest, this is way more humorous than an oddly shaped carrot. Maybe this is what a carrot would look like if you dehydrated it or raisin-ified it?

—————————————————————————————————

Okay, lastly….

Calling All Bloggers!

The Padre and I will be in the Washington D.C. area on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of this weekend/coming week for college visits, so if you are in the D.C. area and want to have a bloggy meetup, I would love to have a blogger dinner at Café Green or someplace equally delicious!

If you’re interested, shoot me an email at chefkatelynblog@gmail.com🙂

—————————————————————————————————

That’s all for tonight lovlies! Have an amazing evening, and come back for tomorrow’s Indulgence Friday recipe! I will be recreating this chocolate cake, aka I am drooling just thinking about it.

Have you taken your Mission: I Feel Pretty challenge picture yet? If not, go do it!

Come on boos, let’s start a movement! Feel free to do it on your bloggy too and link back, the more Pretty Love we spread, the happier the world will be:) Let’s love ourselves!!

Have you ever tried popped amaranth? If not, what’s your favorite cereal and popcorn topping?

Fave cereal = oat bran, but I used to love shredded wheat and Grape Nuts before I was gluten-free! Slash fave popcorn topping = chocolate chips, cinnamon, nooch, and sea salt:)

How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Did you get any gifts?

I love my parents:) Slash I don’t need a man for Valentine’s Day! I spent it eating chocolate and feeling pretty:)

How will you be celebrating Indulgence Friday?

CHOCOLATE CAKE🙂

Mission: I Feel Pretty

Good morning bloggy boos! How are you?

I’m feeling pretty snazzy myself:)

I had a different post planned for today (bee tee dubs, sorry for no post yesterday! I am a busy little munchkin), but this has been on the brain for awhile now. This is going to jump around a bit, but I promise in the end it will all make sense:)

It’s confession time.

Are you ready?

I’m not perfect. (gasp!)

I know, shocker. But seriously. None of us are, and that’s what makes us all so uniquely beautiful.

But some days, we all let this get us down too much. We don’t do the right thing, we get a bad grade, are a few minutes late to work, what have you.

More than likely, we beat ourselves up for not saying the right thing to the guy or for not straightening that one part of our hair, or like myself last night, I was fed up with how long my bangs had gotten so I trimmed them myself.

Fail. boat.

I began to start cursing myself with, “Ugh, Katelyn, why did you do that?! Look what you did! Now you look like a crazy idiot and all of your friends will think you are crazy because your bangs make you look like a nutjob.”

But then I caught myself.

Why do we say these things to ourselves?

At that moment I asked myself, “Would I say this to Little Me?”. In other words, would I say this to a little five-year-old version of me?

Of course not!

So why do we say such awful things to ourselves?

Let me tell you a little story.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of having about four hours between my first and second classes of the day, so I came home and was so jumpy umpy that I decided to get my workout in then instead of later on in the day.

I hopped on the treadmill and did speedwork for a shweaty seven miles. It was awesome, to say the least.

But around 25 minutes, I felt my muscles starting to ache a little bit and I could feel that it was from not running in so long, but I wanted to keep pushing myself. I heard myself saying that if I slowed down or took a break, I wouldn’t be able to run a marathon, ever.

But then I took a second to remember how I felt when I saw my Dad approaching us after running the Boston Marathon for the first time, covered in salty sweat, a shiny silver blanket, and with Gu gel on his face.

^^ After my first 5K

I had never been so proud of my Dad in my entire life. I cried the happiest tears I can ever remember.

Then, on December 1st, he was out running at six in the morning, and it was rainy. It was pitch-dark, and I can remember the rain practically being sideways.

At 6:45, we got a call. He was in the emergency room and had been hit by a car. I had to go to school, and my Mom didn’t tell me everything she had been told on the phone; instead, she told me only that he had been hit and she was going to see him, but that he would be okay.

The thing was, he wasn’t going to be okay.

He was in the hospital for two weeks, and for the first few days could barely speak and almost didn’t remember who my sister and I were. He slept continuously, and was hardly himself.

He had sustained a terrible head injury, leading to bleeding in the part of his brain that deals with memory and thinking skills. They told us he might need brain surgery, but thank goodness he didn’t.

He spent two weeks in a rehabilitation facility, and is on disability from work possibly until August. We do not know if his brain function will ever be the same.

However, his recovery has been one of the speediest and most efficient that his doctors have ever seen. If he had not been taking such good care of his body his whole life, his body would not be repairing itself at the rate that it is.

So as I was running and feeling terrible about my future as a runner because of one little muscle cramp, I thought of my Dad.

IMG_2988

Here is a man who was hit by a car, sustained a brain injury, but is able to recover so quickly and get back to running within two months of the accident.

I began to cry. The biggest feeling of pride and love welled up in my heart, and suddenly my muscle aches were meaningless. I was flying. My legs were propelling me so quickly on my treadmill that I could have sworn I was pushing the treadmill rather than it pushing me.

At that moment, I remembered why I had started running in the first place. It gives me such joy and pride to know that I have pushed my body to its limits, to move my body in the way that God intended, improving my mind, body, and soul all with steps on the pavement.

I realized that one muscle cramp wouldn’t kill my training. I realized that I was strong, beautiful, and so incredibly blessed to be given legs to walk on and a heart to love with.

And lastly, I realized that no one would give a shit that my bangs looked crazy because a. most likely no one would even notice, and b. it’s just appearance. No one really cares if you’re having a bad hair day! If you’ve got a on a smile, no one will even notice your crazy hair, and if they do, they won’t care because you love yourself.

After all of this, I took my glorious shower, got ready, looked in the mirror, and surprised myself by thinking, “Wow girl, you’re pretty!”.

What? I caught myself; I feel pretty?

Right then and there, I smiled at myself and realized how beautiful we all are, and that we beat ourselves up way too much about the little things.

So, I captured that moment with a dorky mirror picture of myself, and I encourage you to do the same.

IMG_3736

This is incredibly weird to be putting up a MySpace-esque picture on the bloggity blog, but lezzbehonest, we’ve all done it and doesn’t it make you feel like a hot piece of bootay with every subsequent picture you take?

It does for me:)

IMG_3738

Just for good measure.

So my friends, I leave you with this:

You are strong.

You are beautiful.

You are loved.

We all need to believe that a little bit more, so I encourage you to think some good thoughts, be kind to the Little You in you, and feel pretty.

Best. movie. ever.

So take a picture of yourself feeling your prettiest and e-mail it to me or, if you have a bloggity blog, post and link back and I will put up all of the pictures in a cumulative blog post.

Imeann, if the idea of sending a picture of yourself doesn’t totally creepskys you out, but we are all best friends so who currs.

We are all beautiful!

Let’s start a movement!

Mission: I Feel Pretty

Speak kindly, think positively and be beautiful.

If you’re feeling passionate about this like I am, have a look at Janae’s post from yesterday on exercise guilt. I absolutely love her, she is so inspirational and has helped me to remind myself what my crazykins personality actually sounds like through all of this. It’s so easy to lose yourself in hard times.

That’s all for today loves! Have a great Hump Day🙂

How are you making yourself feel pretty today?

Telling myself I am one hot piece of bootay and eating some chocolate. Yezzer.

Do you ever experience exercise guilt? How do you get past it?

I think of my Dad ❤

Have you ever gone through something hard with a loved one? Please share! We can all help each other out, that’s what bloggy friends are for!

I love you all so much!! Don’t be shy, believe me I have been through a mother with breast cancer, nothing is worth bottling up:)

Zucchini Noodles + Raw V-Day Lunch + CGB Bathroom

Good morning love doves, and Happy Valentine’s Day! How was your weekend?

Mine was fun and jam-packed, hence the name of this post, which is quite the mouthful:)

I’m so glad you chickadees loved the Indulgence Friday recipe! If you missed it, have a look and make it now, mmk?

So in the spirit of my love for all things quick-and-dirty (get your minds out of the gutter people), I am going to TRY to ramble a tad less than usual. But only a little.

Okay, number one!

Saturday Night:

Zucchini Noodles.

IMG_3622

Quick, delicious. I don’t have a spiralizer because I am a cheapo so I used my vegetable peeler and ate the middle part that wouldn’t noodlify:).

That part I just ate like a pretzel rod…or a stick..or a microphone. I don’t know, what kinds of foods are in stick-form? (out of the gutter, people!)

IMG_3623

Topped with Amy’s Low Sodium Marinara, nooch, and raisins obv.

Then for dessert, I whipped up a double batch of my Raw Chocolate Mousse, and it was gone by the end of the night, I think that says everything mmk.

IMG_3632

The night was spent eating lots of that and watching Greek on Hulu. Ob. sessed.

IMG_3635

Con banana slices, bloobs, rasps, and cacao nibs.

IMG_3639

Sunday:

I woke up, made a delicious Brendan Brazier Thrive energy pudding, and then went to the gym to kick some surrious Dreadmill bootay with an easy seven-miler, it was glorious.

I am thanking lord baby Jesus right now that my hammie is no longer a-killin me. I CAN RUN AGAIN🙂

Then I came home, showered, did my makeup, did my hair, got changed, and packed my breakfast all in half an hour. I think it is safe to say I am a PRO.

34638_1492005950558_1546298846_1210856_2751468_n

That is an actual license plate that I found when I was at my lake house, I was so ecstatic jumpy umpy that I had to take a picture:)

And yes, I ate my cookie dough breakfast in church. Priorities, people.

Then I went to another raw event hosted by the lovely Damaris! It was a scrumdiddlyumptious raw Valentine’s Day lunch, and I left with the happiest belly ever in the whole world.

Course #1:

IMG_3641

Beet It juice (beets, carrots, swiss chard, apple, and ginger) alongside the Apple Curry Salad in a Collard Wrap (apple, carrots, celery, avocado, tomato, cucumber, sunflower seeds, raisins in an orange curry sauce) and a Carrot, Beet, Raisin salad.

IMG_3644

This was to. die. Give me anything with sunflower seeds and raisins and I will love you forever.

IMG_3645

Devoured and sufficiently made a giant mess out of. I am a messy eater🙂

Course #2:

IMG_3646

Almond Ginger Nori Roll (almonds, ginger, marinated veggies in Tamari (wheat-free soy sauce), garlic, miso, spinach, avocado, sprouts).

IMG_3649

Beautiful, delicious. I absolutely hated it;)

IMG_3653

I told you I’m a messy eater!

If you don’t believe me my sister took a picture, don’t look at my face I look icky that is not my good side.

IMG_3654

I am sorry you had to see that. But let’s be honest you guys love pictures of me stuffing my face🙂

Then came DESSERT!

Course #3

Raspberry Ganache Cake and Strawberry Macaroons.

IMG_3657

Words cannot even express. Why have I not had raw macaroons sooner?! These were so good, I usually am not a big fan of the co-co-nut, but these turned me from a coco hater to a coco LOVA.

So freaking good, it was like a strawberry milkshake on crack but better because it is solid.

And this Raspberry Ganache Cake…can I just say my life has been changed forever. This was the most delicious, rich, and perfectly chocolatey cake I have ever had.

Perfectly sweet, and perfectly bitter.

Fudgy, thick, and scrumdiddlyumptious. I swear she put crack in this cake, the lady next to me couldn’t finish hers so I finished it for her:)

IMG_3663

I am recreating this cake for next weekend’s Indulgence Friday, so get excited:)

CGB Bathroom:

Okay the bathroom at the brunchy brunch was creepy, ghetto, and in a basement. Hence, CGB.

IT WAS SO COOL.

Have you ever seen the Blair Witch Project? You should. The corner the guy stands in at the end…yeah, this basement looked exactly like the house. I swear to bejeezus it was filmed here.

Normally this would freak the sugar out of people, but instead I was basically hopping up and down as Sacha was warning me about the creep factor.

Little did she know, I am a crazyins and this was like Christmas Morning. I am a sucker for crazy stuff.

Yesterday’s Look:

Then, I came home and whooped some schoolwork, then headed off to a new youth group with my sister, and it was so. much. fun. These people are as crazykins as I am, so you can imagine how skipdiddlydoo happy I was.

One kid hugs everyone, gave me candy, and counted the number of colors on my shirt with me.

By the way, yesterday’s outfit was ADORABLE, but I was too busy eating at the lunch to get a picture of myself besides the one of me stuffing my face, so here is a mirror shot:

IMG_3690

Everything is from Forever21, I am obsessed. It is all cheap and cute, aka the perfect place for a cheapo like me🙂

Then I came home and ate food bigger than my house, and watched the Grammys. Did anyone else giggle when they saw Lady Gaga’s outfit? I did:)

Go wish Janae a Happy Late Birthday!! She got a crazy hot treadmill, one day I will find a man that will buy me awesome toys like that.

If you happen to find one, feel free to forward him over to chefkatelynsmanofherdreamssweepstakes@valentinefinder.com. Please and thanks:)

That’s all for today lovies! Have a rockin’ Valentine’s Day, whether you’re single and mingling (like me) or spending time with your significant other🙂

I leave you with this, my friends:

mawwiage-mawwiage-princess-bride-demotivational-poster-1226681640

Hahahhaha. Kaybye:)

How are celebrating Valentine’s Day? Or if you hate Valentine’s Day, tell me why you absolutely hate it and we will curse all men together:)

LUNCH, and I love Valentine’s Day, it reminds me of elementary school when we would make “mailboxes” out of shoe boxes and decorate them and get tons of valentines and candy:)

Did you watch the Grammys? Thoughts?

Yes, I am never going to see Never Say Never. Justin Bieber used to be adorable when he was still YouTube’ing and undiscovered, but now it is just toomuch. SLash I love Lady Antebellum:)

Do you eat in church too?

Yes, I cannot go more than 2 hours without food, I would start gnawing on the Bible.

My Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard

Good morning booboos! I hope everyone had a rockin’ Indulgence Friday Smile

(ew, sorry for the baby talk, I am writing this at approx. 11:45 PM because I am all chocolateified-up from the recipe I am going to reveal to you, but of course I will schedule this to post in the morning so you all don’t think I’m a crazykins even though you know I am one) <—my grammar is really good, can you tell?

Mine was spent eating and watching Lie to Me and Glee on Hulu.

Can I just say that Hulu is the best invention ever, I think if I could pick one birthday present it would be to have unlimited access to Hulu and all shows on demand fo FREE because I am a cheapo.

Actually that is a lie, I would want a lifetime supply of raisins and a juicer because I am too cheapo to buy one for myself.

Slash I think I will have to do a whole post on my obsession with Hulu and all of the wonderful things it brings into my life, keep your eye out for that one, I have a feeling it will be a this-will-make-you-pee-your-pants kind of post.

—————————————————————————————————

First of all, I have to say that my Grandma is the cutest thing in the world, I love her and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside when she sends me cards (especially when she sends me a whole dollar, that makes me jump for joy because I can buy penny candy at Walgreens:)).

IMG_3613IMG_3614

It makes my heart smile:)

If you imagine me with my excited face you will understand the emotion that comes with cards from my Grandma, she is the cutest woman alive, I mean look at her!

IMG_0386

Just TRY and tell me that is not the most adorable woman you have ever seen, I dare you. She is even more of a munchkin than I am clocking in at about four foot something or other and it makes me feel tall:)

IMG_0387

What a cutie patootie!

—————————————————————————————————

So, since it was Indulgence Friday, I obviously had to make some yummy deliciousness. This time it came in the form of an old frosty favorite, healthified.

IMG_3602IMG_3604

As a kid, did you ever have the McDonald’s chocolate milkshakes? I used to LOVE those things, but they were so sugar-laden and full of fat that my smart parents only let me have one once every few years (yes, years).

As a child, I didn’t exactly appreciate this lack of ice creamy deliciousness, but now my cholesterol can thank them:)

And now, your cholesterol can thank me!

IMG_3601

Healthified Chocolate Milkshake

Slightly sweet with a mild banana flavor, this milkshake tastes just like (and better!) than its not-so-healthy counterpart.

Makes one large shake.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 heaping tablespoon raw cacao (or cocoa/carob powder)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. stevia
  • 2 giant handfuls of ice
  • Cacao nibs, chocolate chips, more cacao powder (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Combine milk, banana, cacao, stevia, and vanilla in your blender on its highest power.
  2. Add ice cubes, a few at a time, while the blender is running.
  3. Pour into a (large) glass, and serve immediately.

I garnished mine with more cacao nibs, but chocolate chips, cacao/cocoa/carob powder, or fruit would also be delicious!

And the best part? If you use raw cacao, the entire smoothie is completely raw!

Chocolate craving: satisfied.

—————————————————————————————————

I have been getting some questions lately about my raw habits as of late, and I’m not going all dehydrator on you guys (even though I would absolutely love to have one, but then again I am too cheapo to buy one), but I am eating all of my fruits and veggies raw (besides brussels sprouts, which I lightly steam), as well as eating sprouted grains and beans.

However, I am also eating lots of cooked goodness like beans (hummus!) and quinoa and amaranth. And surprisingly, it’s so much easier than eating all cooked food! The prep time is so much smaller, and I feel so rejuvenated every time I eat:)

Also, please do not be offended if I do not respond to comments very quickly! I have addressed this before, but I just feel so bad and I love you all so much! I am getting back to comments and e-mails as quickly as possible, but the student life ain’t easy:) I’m a busy bee, chickadees!

On another note, it made me giggle and smile ear to ear to hear that some of you are catching onto my catch-phrases! (like bloggity blog, lazy-loo, snackety snack, sprouty sprouts..you get the idea) Keep spreadin’ the CK Vocab love, boos!

That’s all for this morning love doves! I’m off to hit the gym and then get some work done. Have an awesome Sattyday! Smile

Does chocolate make you hyper?

Yes, do not get around me after I have had some chocolate unless you are looking for a party.

Are you obsessed with Hulu? What are your favorite shows?

Lie to Me, Glee, Greek, Desperate Housewives, and Grey’s. And OCCASIONALLY The Bachelor if I’m feeling extra indulgent:)

What is your favorite flavor of milkshake?

Chocolate, hands down. Vanilla and strawberry are just gross.

Do your grandparents send you cute cards?

Yes, I keep every single one of them, they make me smile:)

Survival 101

Good morning chickadees, and HAPPY INDULGENCE FRIDAY🙂 I hope you’re all as excited for the weekend as I am!

I loved hearing about all of your gardening skills (or lack thereof;)), as well as all of your favorite foods!

Update: my sprouty sprouts have sprouted! The quinoa is absolutely delicious and fresh-tasting, and the beans are crunchy crunch. Success!

So, I’ve had a couple of crises over the last couple of days.

Allow me to explain.

Crisis #1:

Most of you probably heard my distress call on Twitter recently:

twitter

Uh yeah, at approx. 9 PM, my furnace decided to kick the bucket.

So, what do you do when your thermostat says 62 degrees Fahrenheit and the Isaac heating guy won’t be getting there until after midnight?

You make yourself a hugh jass pot of tea and put your redonkulously thick sleeping bag under your sheets and two blankets.

IMG_3600

That would be the BEST sleeping bag known to man. Go find it, it is made by Coleman and the inside is made of flannel:) Yeah, flannel.

This thing is so comfy and warm I had absolutely no problem NOT taking it back up to the attic once the furnace was fixed. It is like a cocoon. You do not mess with something that comfy.

Crisis #1: averted.

Crisis #2:

Mother Nature’s monthly gift was having me craving carbs and chocolate like a beeyotch.

So, what do I do?

Eat a million bananas and have a Hot Chocolate Cookie Dough Bowl for breakfast.

Duh.

IMG_3598

Whoever said chocolate was a dessert was seriously misinformed. Chocolate for breakfast is ALWAYS okay:)

I made the usual mix with a serving of sprouted quinoa instead of the oats, raw cacao instead of the Chocolate Amazing Grass, and added a teaspoon of freeze-dried acai powder.

Topped with bloobs, rasps, and tons of cacao nibs.

Chocolate craving: satisfied:)

Crisis #3:

We were all out of raisins. For a WHOLE TWO DAYS.

If you’re new to the bloggity blog, I have a raisin addiction. They are more of a staple in my diet than vegetables.

I literally eat redonk amounts of them every single day, typically at every meal and usually combined with hummus, quinoa, and balsamic (try that combo now, you can thank me later).

I don’t think I have ever been in such dire need of a certain ingredient in my entire life, I was freaking out and quite sure that the world was going to end on the day that I ran out of raisins (since having three giant containers of them in my pantry is never enough).

So, I tried to sub chopped prunes for the raisins in my usual quinoa-hummus-balsamic bowls.

It was awful.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME PEOPLE!

But it’s not like that stopped me from going to town on a container of prunes (not mixed with quinoa, hummus, or balsamic, no worries:)).

Lesson learned: nothing can ever replace raisins, do not be fooled by the dried-fruit nature of prunes and dates, they are posers.

Crisis #4:

Having the sniffles and being tired is no bueno.

So, what do I do?

Make a hugh jass green smoothie (tutorial coming soon!) and a salad beasty, add some delicious hummus-quinoa bowls, and call it a day.

IMG_3363

IMG_3340

Sorry kiddos, ugly picture but at least it tasted good:) Besides, fugly food is always the yummiest, right?;)

Topped with hummus because it is the best salad dressing.

Spinach topped with artichoke hearts, red pepper, carrots, and hummus.

Oh, and that napsky I took might have helped a little too:)

Did I mention I love my vaporizer?

IMG_3218

Steaaaaam:)

Lesson learned: a green smoothie and a salad beast a day keep the doctor away:)

—————————————————————————————————

That’s all for this morning lovlies! Indulge big tonight, and I’ll bring you a deliciously decadent recipe, so stay tuned!

Has your furnace ever broken? Did you layer a million blankets like I did?

Yes, please do NOT remind me, I was cuddling with my space heater basically.

What’s your favorite way to tame a chocolate craving?

Hot chocolate, chocolate mousse, anything topped with chocolate chips:)

How do you beat the Mother Nature’s Monthly Gift blues? Or if you’re a guy, how do you treat your girlfriend like a princess when she is acting like a poopy grumplekins?

CHOCOLATE, tea, sleep, and Hulu!

Let Your Garden Grow

Good morning love doves! Happy almost-FridaySmile

I’m so glad that y’all love carbs as much as I do! In case you missed it, I wrote a poem for carbs. You should probably check it out. You might pee yourself.

Just sayin’.

AAANYwho, ever since I’ve been going high-raw, I’ve been interested in funky sounding things like…sprouting.

So, I decided to take it for a whirl and try it for myself!

IMG_3567

Black quinoa and azuki beans.

IMG_3568

First, I soaked them both (uncovered) in their jars overnight.

Then, I covered each jar with a piece of cheesecloth, rinsed the quinoa and beans (to get rid of the digestive inhibitors that are released during soaking), and then propped the jars up at a 45-degree angle in a pan.

About every few hours, I rinse them and invert them again. This keeps them moist so the sprouty sprouts do their growing! Smile

IMG_3571

See the little bean sprout? ^^

Can I just say that sprouting is SO fun. I love seeing the little sprouties do their thang!

WAY more entertaining than cooking in a pot, let me tell you.

I feel like a gardener:)

And I love the crunch of sprouts – it’s so refreshing.

Want to try sprouting?

Here are some tips to get you started!

IMG_3588

Sprouting is a great method for the lazy-loos (like me), and those that like crunchiness.

The main appeal of sprouting, however, comes from the fact that everything remains raw and it much more easily assimilated in the raw, sprouted form.

The digestive inhibitors are released and washed away, and the starches, fats, and proteins are converted into their simplest, most easily digestible and usable forms.

That means less stress on your digestive system, and more energy for you to kick toosh on the Dreadmill!

Plus, I can never get enough crunchy goodness.

Have you ever tried sprouting?

YES, this is fun:)

Do you have a garden, or do you grow any of your own plants?

No, I am a lazy-loo, but in the spring I might bust one out:)

What are your favorite grains/beans/nuts?

For grains, I luuurve quinoa and amaranth. Garbanzos because of hummus, but azuki because they are yummy. And almonds are my favorite!:)

That’s all for this morning loves! Have a great Thursday Smile
