Zucchini Noodles + Raw V-Day Lunch + CGB Bathroom

Good morning love doves, and Happy Valentine’s Day! How was your weekend?

Mine was fun and jam-packed, hence the name of this post, which is quite the mouthful:)

I’m so glad you chickadees loved the Indulgence Friday recipe! If you missed it, have a look and make it now, mmk?

So in the spirit of my love for all things quick-and-dirty (get your minds out of the gutter people), I am going to TRY to ramble a tad less than usual. But only a little.

Okay, number one!

Saturday Night:

Zucchini Noodles.

IMG_3622

Quick, delicious. I don’t have a spiralizer because I am a cheapo so I used my vegetable peeler and ate the middle part that wouldn’t noodlify:).

That part I just ate like a pretzel rod…or a stick..or a microphone. I don’t know, what kinds of foods are in stick-form? (out of the gutter, people!)

IMG_3623

Topped with Amy’s Low Sodium Marinara, nooch, and raisins obv.

Then for dessert, I whipped up a double batch of my Raw Chocolate Mousse, and it was gone by the end of the night, I think that says everything mmk.

IMG_3632

The night was spent eating lots of that and watching Greek on Hulu. Ob. sessed.

IMG_3635

Con banana slices, bloobs, rasps, and cacao nibs.

IMG_3639

Sunday:

I woke up, made a delicious Brendan Brazier Thrive energy pudding, and then went to the gym to kick some surrious Dreadmill bootay with an easy seven-miler, it was glorious.

I am thanking lord baby Jesus right now that my hammie is no longer a-killin me. I CAN RUN AGAIN🙂

Then I came home, showered, did my makeup, did my hair, got changed, and packed my breakfast all in half an hour. I think it is safe to say I am a PRO.

34638_1492005950558_1546298846_1210856_2751468_n

That is an actual license plate that I found when I was at my lake house, I was so ecstatic jumpy umpy that I had to take a picture:)

And yes, I ate my cookie dough breakfast in church. Priorities, people.

Then I went to another raw event hosted by the lovely Damaris! It was a scrumdiddlyumptious raw Valentine’s Day lunch, and I left with the happiest belly ever in the whole world.

Course #1:

IMG_3641

Beet It juice (beets, carrots, swiss chard, apple, and ginger) alongside the Apple Curry Salad in a Collard Wrap (apple, carrots, celery, avocado, tomato, cucumber, sunflower seeds, raisins in an orange curry sauce) and a Carrot, Beet, Raisin salad.

IMG_3644

This was to. die. Give me anything with sunflower seeds and raisins and I will love you forever.

IMG_3645

Devoured and sufficiently made a giant mess out of. I am a messy eater🙂

Course #2:

IMG_3646

Almond Ginger Nori Roll (almonds, ginger, marinated veggies in Tamari (wheat-free soy sauce), garlic, miso, spinach, avocado, sprouts).

IMG_3649

Beautiful, delicious. I absolutely hated it;)

IMG_3653

I told you I’m a messy eater!

If you don’t believe me my sister took a picture, don’t look at my face I look icky that is not my good side.

IMG_3654

I am sorry you had to see that. But let’s be honest you guys love pictures of me stuffing my face🙂

Then came DESSERT!

Course #3

Raspberry Ganache Cake and Strawberry Macaroons.

IMG_3657

Words cannot even express. Why have I not had raw macaroons sooner?! These were so good, I usually am not a big fan of the co-co-nut, but these turned me from a coco hater to a coco LOVA.

So freaking good, it was like a strawberry milkshake on crack but better because it is solid.

And this Raspberry Ganache Cake…can I just say my life has been changed forever. This was the most delicious, rich, and perfectly chocolatey cake I have ever had.

Perfectly sweet, and perfectly bitter.

Fudgy, thick, and scrumdiddlyumptious. I swear she put crack in this cake, the lady next to me couldn’t finish hers so I finished it for her:)

IMG_3663

I am recreating this cake for next weekend’s Indulgence Friday, so get excited:)

CGB Bathroom:

Okay the bathroom at the brunchy brunch was creepy, ghetto, and in a basement. Hence, CGB.

IT WAS SO COOL.

Have you ever seen the Blair Witch Project? You should. The corner the guy stands in at the end…yeah, this basement looked exactly like the house. I swear to bejeezus it was filmed here.

Normally this would freak the sugar out of people, but instead I was basically hopping up and down as Sacha was warning me about the creep factor.

Little did she know, I am a crazyins and this was like Christmas Morning. I am a sucker for crazy stuff.

Yesterday’s Look:

Then, I came home and whooped some schoolwork, then headed off to a new youth group with my sister, and it was so. much. fun. These people are as crazykins as I am, so you can imagine how skipdiddlydoo happy I was.

One kid hugs everyone, gave me candy, and counted the number of colors on my shirt with me.

By the way, yesterday’s outfit was ADORABLE, but I was too busy eating at the lunch to get a picture of myself besides the one of me stuffing my face, so here is a mirror shot:

IMG_3690

Everything is from Forever21, I am obsessed. It is all cheap and cute, aka the perfect place for a cheapo like me🙂

Then I came home and ate food bigger than my house, and watched the Grammys. Did anyone else giggle when they saw Lady Gaga’s outfit? I did:)

Go wish Janae a Happy Late Birthday!! She got a crazy hot treadmill, one day I will find a man that will buy me awesome toys like that.

If you happen to find one, feel free to forward him over to chefkatelynsmanofherdreamssweepstakes@valentinefinder.com. Please and thanks:)

That’s all for today lovies! Have a rockin’ Valentine’s Day, whether you’re single and mingling (like me) or spending time with your significant other🙂

I leave you with this, my friends:

mawwiage-mawwiage-princess-bride-demotivational-poster-1226681640

Hahahhaha. Kaybye:)

How are celebrating Valentine’s Day? Or if you hate Valentine’s Day, tell me why you absolutely hate it and we will curse all men together:)

LUNCH, and I love Valentine’s Day, it reminds me of elementary school when we would make “mailboxes” out of shoe boxes and decorate them and get tons of valentines and candy:)

Did you watch the Grammys? Thoughts?

Yes, I am never going to see Never Say Never. Justin Bieber used to be adorable when he was still YouTube’ing and undiscovered, but now it is just toomuch. SLash I love Lady Antebellum:)

Do you eat in church too?

Yes, I cannot go more than 2 hours without food, I would start gnawing on the Bible.

And Then There Was Mousse. [Indulgence Friday]

Good morning bloggy boos! I hope everyone had a rockin’ Indulgence Friday🙂

Mine was a blasty! I had an awesome time do-si-do-ing through my half-day and then lunched it up before I read a ton of Thrive during my 60-minute elliptical power sesh.

How did I do that, you may ask? I brought the giantest (shut up there is no grammar this early in the morning) rubber band I could find and wrapped it around the elliptical to hold my book flat. I wish I had a picture but I don’t so I will leave you to your imagination:)

After my workout, I didn’t even bother to shower (I know I am gross) so I used my favorite trick…HOMEMADE DRY SHAMPOO🙂

I use this stuff way too often to reveal (showering is for wusses), and there will soon be a recipe for that dry shampoo:) Actually, it isn’t really a recipe, just more of super simple secret trick that I will soon reveal to you and you will never have to wash your hair again.

Okay, that is a lie, you should shower because otherwise you will be stinky and greasy and no one likes a stinky person.

Just saying.

AAAANYwho, the Baby Sister and I headed out to a dinner date we’d had planned for a week or so, and took advantage of a gift certificate AND a buy-one-get-one-free coup that we had saved up for one of our favorite restaurants (we love our coupsSmile).

I know, we are cheapo but hey, who can refuse a free meal? Winking smile

It involved a lot of this:

IMG_3484

SLUUURP Smile

And this:

IMG_3482

IMG_3483

Can I just say I love my sister. She is the bomb.com.

Who else have you met that can devour THAT bowl, and do it like this:

IMG_3489IMG_3490

Um, I love my sister. We shared an epic high-five. This family loves their food:)

By the way, those chopsticks she’s using? A Christmas gift to Baby Sister from Yours Truly, since she is chopstick-ally challenged. Isn’t it adorable?

I will express it’s adorableness in photography taken by Baby Sister in an attempt to be artistic while I was in the ladies room.

IMG_3485

IMG_3487

IMG_3488

Did I mention she is the bomb.com?

Pure artistry right there:)

Oh, and in case you were wondering, we both devoured giant bowls of Peanut Butter Noodles.

IMG_3480

Sorry for the awesome lighting, y’all;)

Peanut butter + noodles = how much better can it get?!

We have been obsessed since we were itty bitty and knew what Asian food was, aka we would always demand peanut noodles because we were picky and to be honest that was  all we would eat.

Now we get it every time we go to this restaurant.

Which is every week.

Girl’s gotta get her peanut butter fix!

My fortune:

IMG_3493

Uh. Greed. Can I just say that fortune cookies are very very wise? Only a cookie could think of that;)

Then, we mosey’ed over to Sbux and didn’t buy anything, aka sat and chatted and shared jokes about the fun people that sit in the big comfy chairs with their laptops playing COD. Dream big, people, dream big:)

Then, in honor of Indulgence Friday, I recreated the foodgasmic Chocolate Mousse I had last weekend.

Oh, did I ever.

IMG_3516

Quick, simple, and rich. This will be my birthday cake frosting this year…sprinkled in cacao nibs:)

And the best part? It is mostly raw, and can be made completely raw with the use of raw cacao instead of cocoa powder (I am a compulsive “nothing goes to waste” person, so I was not about to open a new bag of raw cacao with a wide open can of Ghirardelli staring at me). Tadaa!

IMG_3518

Raw Chocolate Mousse

Makes about 1 cup (2 large servings)

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 3 tbsp. cocoa powder, or 3-5 tbsp. raw cacao
  • 3 tbsp. agave nectar, more if desired (I prefer a more bitter-tasting chocolate, so I used no more than 3, although I didn’t really measure)

Directions:

  1. Open avocado by cutting in half, removing the pit, and then scooping the flesh out.
  2. Process avocado in a food processor until creamy.
  3. Add in cocoa/cacao powder, then agave nectar (this order is important in order for the powder to not go all over the inside of your food processor). Alternatively, you could do all of this in a bowl by mashing the avocado and then mixing in the rest of the ingredients thoroughly once the avocado is creamed.
  4. Chill in the fridge (or the freezer is even better, if you like it super thick like I do) for at least 15-30 minutes.
  5. Serve topped with cacao nibs, fruit, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, agave nectar, or whatever you fancy! Swedish Fish would work too:)

I topped mine with bloobs, raspberries, and cacao nibs. Love me some chocolatey endorphins🙂

IMG_3521

Round 2:

IMG_3525

With more berries, cacao nibs, and a Raspberry Amaretto Cookie🙂

The prep:

Gather your ingredients…

IMG_3500

Simplicity at its best:)

Slice your avocado like a champ.

IMG_3505

IMG_3507

Whip out your trusty Chop Chop🙂

IMG_3512

I. love. this. thing. Perfect for blending up oats, aka this thing was my fifth appendage when I got my wisdom teeth out. All of my food = blenderized in this sucker.

Process until creamy, like so:

IMG_3513

Then transform it into chocolatey deliciousness.

IMG_3515

Done, and done.

Enjoy while laughing your ass off while watching Easy A with your family. Yes, we are comfortable enough to watch these kinds of movies with each other, I like to think of it as a special bond🙂

IMG_3522

Hahahaha I love Amanda Bynes🙂 Did anyone else watch What I Like About You back in the day? It was my favorite. show. Literally had to come home from school by three every day in order to watch this show or the world would end.

My plansky for the rest of the day? I’mma go make some protein pancakes and then get back to you with that recipe asap:)

After that? No idea, but I LIVE for the weekend and something fun will go down:)

Do you always order the same dish at your favorite restaurants, or do you switch it up?

I’m a creature of habit, but lately I’ve been getting a little bit more adventurous:)

Have you seen Easy A and did you basically pee yourself?

Yup, slash I am marrying Penn Badgley (I think that is his name, he is just hot Gossip Girl boy in my mind).

What is your favorite dessert? Or better yet, your favorite chocolate dessert?

I would have to say this mousse and any chocolate fudge cake/frosting. I am a chocolate MONSTA:)

Have a fun Saturday, loves!

xoxox,

p.s. Did I mention that I love late-night snackage..yeah, right now I am noshing on some Baked Falafel Balls. Try them with balsamic vinegar, you will never go back! (or better yet, ketchupWinking smile)

Say a Prayer + Owl House Eats!

Good evening all! Hope you’ve had a lurvely and restful Sunday🙂

The first part of today’s post will be a little emotional and sappy, but I feel that this is a topic that I need to address because it really hit home with me today.

This morning after I posted a gluten-free pizza-for-one recipe, I headed off to church where I listened to an unexpectedly profound service.

It started with a meditation on the “goodbyes” that will be said at the end of the year (leaving for college), as well as a highlight on the goodbyes that will be said to the graduates that leave to go to war.

As I sat with eyes closed, I imagined my “goodbye” with my family with both excitement and incredible sadness. I will be leaving my comfortable house filled with the people I love most (and my stove), but entering into a new place that will have so much to offer: a life of my own, creativity in the kitchen, and the many excitements of college life (pursuing my passions and partying..obv).

But then, my mind shifted to how I would feel if I were leaving my parents to go to a place where I would be killing human beings, for the sake of “freedom”.

I am not in any way saying that there cannot be justifications for war, but instead I would like you to put yourself in that eighteen-year-old’s position for a moment. Imagine saying goodbye to your parents, knowing your next destination would be a foreign country with a bunch of soldiers you’ve never met, to a place where no one can be trusted.

Then, put yourself in the position of the parents saying goodbye to their child. The fear that their baby wouldn’t come home, or wouldn’t come home all in one piece. The fear that their little girl or little boy wouldn’t be the same person they said goodbye to, but instead someone they don’t recognize.

Many soldiers return home only to commit suicide. Over one thousand have survived suicide attempts, and most will come back from war with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Whether you support war or not, please support our troops. These are our friends’ boys and girls, our neighbors, and the person who sat next to us in elementary school.

Say a prayer for these soldiers and their families tonight, and remember that our soldiers do not always believe what they are doing is right, but they feel that it is right to fight for our country and the lives of their loved ones.

Though I do not believe in the killing of any human being, I support the humanity of the people who lay down their lives every day, no matter whether that directly or indirectly protects us.

The reading and sermon that followed the meditation will be covered in tomorrow’s post. Here’s a hint: it has to do with your passion, your life, your career, and your heart. Any guesses?

If you pray, please also include my family in your prayers. Today had an abrupt turn for the worse, and we need your prayers as we nurse a family member back to health. You all are beautiful, and I know with the love of us all, we can all get through the tough times!

Also, please drive safely. You never know when one choice in a vehicle could change your life.

God bless!

—————————————————————————————————

Now onto a less emotional topic………FOOD!

This afternoon (after the awesomely moving church service and a nice jaunt around the neighborhood with the puppers), we headed off to The Owl House.

I cannot rave enough about this place, it is delicious, has copious vegan and gluten-free entrees (this place even has gluten-free bread made with teff, can I get a hell yeah?!), and every dessert is vegan.

Gett @ m3.

IMG_3454

I got the Garden Salad (Field Greens, Farmers Market Vegetables, Lemon Vinaigrette), topped with a Lentil Burger, sans the Vegenaise and Onion Roll (not gluten free).

IMG_3461

It was delicious, I scarfed it down in 0.26 seconds and loved every bite. I haven’t had a grilled burger in much too long, and a reunion was well overdue. Hello, smoky flava!

IMG_3456

It made me incredibly skippidyy happy to find that the waitress was very accommodating to my vegan– and gluten-free restrictions (last time I came I was not on a gluten-free diet).

I always end up feeling like “that girl” who pesters the waitress.. “Can I have the blah blah blah but with no blah and with blah blah on the side? Oh, and no blah blah, either, can I get blahty blah instead?”

I would feel bad, but I like my food, and I like it my way:)

Which takes me to dessert! I absolutely could not resist this son-of-a-gun even though the burger left me sufficiently stuffed.

There is always room for chocolate.

IMG_3465

Chocolate Mousse (Cocoa-Avocado Puree, Fresh Fruit, Cacao Nibs).

IMG_3467This was to. die.

Recipe to come.

I’m not sure exactly how this motha was concocted, but I don’t ask, I just eat.

IMG_3466

Just you wait kiddos, this will be the most decadent thing that ever hit the bottom of your endless stomach.

I literally could not stop making “mmm!” noises while I was licking this off of my spoon, it was too good and I was getting some funny looks but I could care less.

And then I looked in the mirror and there was tons of chocolate in my teeth.

But as before, I could care less. It’s a small price to pay for chocolatey deliciousness🙂

Then, we headed across the street to one of my favorite co-op’s to explore fun foods and get free samples (wooo for Sundays!). There was free chocolate, chocolate-covered almonds, and organic blueberries! Uh, chocolate and fruit fo free? Get at me!

IMG_3469Blooooooobs🙂

I had three of these little cuppies, it’s fine. They’re free for a reason, people!

That’s all for now lovies! I’m off to make some din din, do my homework, get excited for my first day of psych tomorrow (new semester, hollllla!), and go to sleep EARLY.

I am making a vow to myself to go to bed NO LATER than 10 every night, and I am telling all of you because that will make sure I am more accountable for my own rebelliousness. It is now your job to keep me in line. Good luck, people!

What is your view on “support our troops”?

I support the people, not necessarily the war.

Do you ever feel like a pesky food orderer?

Uh, always. My food, my way, beeyotch!

Do you get food stuck in your teeth/your hair/on your clothes?

Yes, yes, and yes. That is why I wear scarves🙂

Have a good rest of your night! Eat some chocolate for me;)

I Love College + Raspberry Amaretto Cookies!

Can I just say I REALLY miss being tan? Now I am paper-white, and I used to be Africano. I’m not joking.

Then:

Now:

scan0001 1

…..oh. Hi, Casper, ever heard of the sun?

If you want to see (hilarious) pictures of me, you can see my entries for a vegan fashion show I entered over the summer.

I miss being a beachy blonde bronzy girl!

Sunshine, please come back to me?! It’s been MUCH too long, and I do not believe in paying for skin cancer (aka tanning beds).

Sunshine and I are a magical match made in heaven.

Dang, I am all up on the alliteration today!

—————————————————————————————————

Anywho, the title of this post is due to the fact that I’ve had a redonkulously awesome day.

This morning I woke up to a SILENT house (I am a morning freak and I love having the wondrous morning hours to myself, aka talking to my dog and eating copious amounts of cookie dough). Then, I checked my Droid (aka my baby) to find that I had won a cookbook that I cannot WAIT to review for you guys!! Slash I don’t think you guys understand how big of a deal this is…I never win anything. I am so excited for this one, I had been dying to buy it but now it is mine fo free:)

Then, after my glorious morning, I had a college interview with the sweetest lady in the world and we talked for hours and hours (okay, an hour and a half) about public health, nutrition, the food industry, the U.S. government and all of the stupid lobbyists, hiking, and hot chocolate. Love. Her. During said interview, I sipped on a delicious cup of tea from sbux and I don’t even know what kind of herbal tea it was but I don’t ask, I just drink (okay that sounded bad).

As soon as the interview ended, my Dad was waiting for me with a big ol’ smile and said he had an email he wanted me to read that would make me very happy. Did Grandma send me money? Uh, no, he said. Instead, it was an email announcing my first college acceptance! Holllllaaa at me girls! I am so happy because this school is one of my top choices. However, I will not disclose the name of the school until further acceptances and decisions have been made:) Until then, I will tell you that it will be SUPER easy for me to go for a jog on beautiful trails, hike a mountain (or three), get some yummy veg (and raw!) eats, and buy groceries from local co-ops and natural food stores so I can cook for myself. Oh, and I would be majoring in nutrition and doing lots of undergrad research.

Any guesses?! I might just tell you if you’re right;)

So, why did I tell you about my awesome morning, loot, and college acceptance? Not only because I love to talk about myself:) but also because I believe that everything in life happens for a reason, with a plan, and is also greatly determined by karma. One of my favorite mantras is:

I’m a strong believer in karma. What goes around comes around. Be graceful and wise in all that you do, and the world will return the favor.

And in case you were wondering, yes I did make that up, and I know I am a genius. Okay maybe not a genius, but I live by this principle.

And I’m pretty sure my day has been amazing so far because I had an indulgent Indulgence Friday🙂

It started off with a Cookie Dough Bowl (recycled photo, I’m lazy I know).

Continued with Ethiopian food, which is served on a giant piece of bread. It is called Injera and is addictingly delicious, we brought home approximately 12 rolls of it, I kid you not. By the way it is amazing with almond butter and jam, it is like a sweet and sour delicious sticky mouthful (get your mind out of the gutter people!). Oh, and you eat the food with your hands. I love permission to make even more of a mess than usual:)

Chickpeas, lentils, collard greens, cabbage, and a small salad of tomato and onions atop a hugh jass piece of injera. Oh and we had two baskets of the stuff. Did I mention we have a lot of injera in our fridge?

IMG_3421

What goes around comes around? I completely agree. Especially when it comes around in the form of Gluten-Free Raspberry Amaretto Cookies.

IMG_3433

I guess it’s true that you really do make your own happiness.

Gluten-Free Raspberry Amaretto Cookies

Adapted from my Gluten-Free Orange-Cranberry Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup almond flour (also called almond meal)
  • 1/3 cup quinoa flour
  • 1/3 cup + 1/4 cup garbanzo bean flour
  • 1/4 cup quinoa flakes
  • 1/2 cup applesauce (unsweetened, natural)
  • 1/4 NuStevia Baking Blend (or your sweetener of choice)
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp. almond extract
  • 1/4 cup slivered or chopped almonds (I used slivered)
  • 1/4 cup chopped raspberries
  • 3 tbsp. or more Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze (or milk of choice)

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a cookie sheet.
  2. Mix wet ingredients in  a small bowl, dry ingredients in a larger one.
  3. Pour wet into dry and mix thoroughly. Dough will seem dry but keep stirring! If it is still too dry, add milk or liquid of choice by the tablespoon until it reaches a doughy consistency.
  4. Gently fold in almonds and raspberries.
  5. Scoop by the tablespoon onto your cookie sheet and flatten slightly with your hand (running your skin under water first usually helps to avoid sticking).
  6. Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until the outside is dry enough to touch. I prefer these still squishy on the inside when leaving the oven. It allows for a firm outside with a doughy, moist filling.

IMG_3428

Ingredients? Word.

All I have to say is that this has to be the most scrumdiddlyumptious recipe I’ve ever concocted. I would describe to you every delicious flavor in this doughy deliciousness, but that would take too long so I am just going to tell you to make these. Don’t even question it, just do it.

If you need further persuasion, know that I ate four and a half of these babies last night, then had to freeze the rest or else they would have been gone.

I am the COOKIE MONSTA🙂 Do not get me near a cookie jar or it will be empty in approximately 2.41 seconds flat. Don’t look so surprised. There’s a reason I cook so much!

(p.s. sorry for the awesome photography, fluorescent lighting is not my friend)

—————————————————————————————————

That’s all for now dearies!

My plan for the rest of the day?

  • Learning everything the college I got into.
  • Doing my Stat project (it’s due at noon on a Sunday, how does that even happen?!)
  • Working out
  • Making and eating pizza. A lot of it:)

Coming up soon on the bloggity blog:

  • Tonight, a recipe for Gluten Free Pizza for One because it is VEGAN PIZZA DAY!! Uh, a whole holiday dedicated to eating pizza? I’m down!
  • Reviews on Black Swan (holy shiznits) and The Social Network. I saw two awesome movies in one day and I daresay my brain might explode. Can I just say I wish I had swan wings? I’m pretty sure it would bring all the boys to the yard. Who wouldn’t dig a girl that can fly pirouette?

How do you stay bronzy beautiful in the winter? Or if you’re pale like me, we can bond over our pastiness and go to the Caribbean:)

My bronzer is not sufficient any more. If you pay for the trip to the sunny countries, I will pay you back in smiles and natural highlights:)

How did you celebrate Indulgence Friday?

Uh, by eating food with my hands off of a giant piece of bread, and then eating a lot of cookies. Indulgence Friday = celebrated.

What’s your favorite kind of cookie?

I love the classic choco chip, but lately I’ve been digging the more elegant combos like orange-cranberry🙂

My Healthy Dose of Awkward

Okay so before I get to my recap of the SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS raw brunch, I must let this out.

Three awkward things I did today:

  1. In the shower, I accidentally put conditioner on my face, thinking it was face wash. No bueno. I mean, how does that even happen? Maybe it was because I was singing Raise Your Glass at the top of my lungs and hair was the last thing on my mind? Oh, and I was singing it just like this:

I love Pink, she is a MONSTA

  2. After said musical distraction, I proceeded to blast that very song as well as Hey Baby and Like a G6 (somehow I never get sick of either of those songs). And I danced. My hair is now dry, THANK YOU awesome dancing skills of mine. I wish I had a picture of this but no one on the internet needs to see me pop lock and droppin’ it!
  3. I licked my plate clean. Which caused some of my lovely new friends to laugh hysterically and announce they need to take a picture IMMEDIATELY!

IMG_3417Me and all of my friends. Actually, they were all crowded around the photographer and laughing. I am toomuch:)

Wait, I like this picture better.

    IMG_3418

    Yurp, HOTTAY

Why am I so pale? Summer, please come back!! I don’t believe in paying for skin cancer so I refuse to use tanning beds. Bronzer is no longer sufficient. Anyone want to go someplace obnoxiously sunny and warm? It is cold in New York and I would like some sun.

  4. Okay, I lied. Number four is that I am typing this while still in my bathrobe because I absolutely had to write this post right now. Face it people, rambling just can’t wait!

Okay, now onto WHY I was licking my plate!

Firstly, I have to thank Christine, the owner of Wellness Within, for hosting this awesome event! She is a sweetheart, I can’t wait to work with her more!

IMG_3400Sorry, Color Pop on LiveWriter makes us look orange. At least I look less pale:)

She has such a great business going, and is expanding soon! If you are in the area, definitely take the snowy drive out to her store on the beautiful (and hoppin’) Park Avenue. I wish I could get out there more! (p.s. if you’re in the area and want an awesome restaurant, GO TO PARK AVENUE!)

Onto the FOOD.

Despite my full belly from breakfast, I was more than happy to stuff my face with raw goodness.

Crepe #1.

IMG_3414

Amazeballs.

Above is the apple crepe with peaches, blueberries, and a vanilla crème. And a cinnamon roll🙂

Both were delicious, I scarfed this down in about 0.2 seconds, along with a small bowl of fruit, resulting in this:

IMG_3416

Devoured and licked clean with a big smile on my face:)

I LOVE FOOD.

And green juice. This was absolutely amazing, I wish I wasn’t so cheap and would buy a juicer but hey at least my birthday is coming up soon! (aka this summer, not soon, but EVERY DAY is my birthday in my mind since every day is awesome)

I might be wrong, but I believe this was romaine, celery, cucumber, and parsley. SO good, I love veggies, this was sweet enough it didn’t even need anything else:)

Next up was the banana crepe con a chocolate hazelnut crème sauce, banana slices, cacao nibs, and chocolate hazelnut milk.

IMG_3389

I praise the chocolate gods for this one. And the lovely and amazing Damaris! She is an incredibly talented chef.

Chocolate banana crepe also enjoyed by Dakota! I am so glad I met this girl, she is a sweetheart and is gorgeous, she should model! (and I heard she makes a mean raw lasagna…cook make food for me please?)

And the adorable Autumn Ray! (I think that’s how you spell it? Sorry if I butchered it!!).

I got her mid-bite! Sorry girl;)

Next up were more cinnamon buns and a blueberry pancake! Ahhhhh holy yumsky.

IMG_3397Plus a crème sauce that I wish I knew what was in it but it was so good I could care less. Another plate LICKED clean.

IMG_3403

If I could eat pancakes every single day of my life I SO would. In math class two years ago on Pi Day (yes it’s an actual day), we had pie WEEK and every single day someone brought a pie or some amazingly delicious dessert that somehow turned into my lunch every day that week.

In honor of Pie Week and my love for pancakes, we should have a national blogger pancake week with crazy creative pancake recipes for ALL meals! Who’s in?

Behind the scenes:

IMG_3406Damaris and Sasha (or Sacha?) making pure MAGIC. Magicians, I tell you.

IMG_3408Dehydrator action.

Group shot!

IMG_3419Such beautiful ladies! I can’t wait for the next event, apparently they have them twice a month! I can’t wait for my fill of yummy raw food to devour:)

Again, sorry about looking like carrots… I hated the pale version so deal;)

Damaris, Sasha, Dakota, Autumn, or any of yous that attended, if you want the original picture (aka not carrot-y), shoot me a comment and I’ll e-mail it to you:)

p.s. Damaris, if you’re looking into being a personal chef PLEASE COME BE MINE. I’ll pay you in smiles and lots of licked plates. Deal?

Okay now I am going to go curl up in my turtleneck and granny sweater by my space heater and study my brains out, making this face:

Please say a prayer for me, I might not make it through the sea of heavy textbooks, notebooks, and flashcards that I am currently drowning in. I HATE midterms week. Did you know that teachers hate it as much as we do? Yeah, let’s abolish it.

What awkward thing did you do today?

I licked my plate clean. Shoo, I do that every day! Except it’s usually a bowl because I hate plates, bowls are awesome and can be filled high with lots of delicious goodness.

Do you pledge to make a [crazy awesome] pancake recipe? (please say yes) If you do it, post the recipe in a comment or on your blog and link back!

YES now I have to post a crazy awesome pancake recipe, good thing breakfast is my favorite meal of the day!

What’s your favorite way to eat pancakes?

With almond butter, fruit, apple spread, and some sort of chocolate. Cacao nibs, please:)

What’s your take on raw food?

I’m in love. Raw food has made me feel even more energetic than usual and everything tastes better than it used to!

Slash I may have eaten a king’s sized meal (read: this brunch plus snackage) and then attempted to bust out an awesome work out but totally failed with an achey tummy. Too much fat and protein all at once, my stomach is not happy with me. But it was so good that I don’t even curr, I’d take food over exercise any day:)

p.s. I have eaten 100% raw so far today, I am super pleased with myself.

See you later boos!

Hoo? The Owl House, that’s Hoo!

In last week’s post, I promised a recap of my evening at the latest vegan restaurant in town, The Owl House. Sorry, I’m a little late 😉

Prepare for an incredibly mouth-watering experience…it’s about to get yummy.

We arrived at the restaurant donned in some warm, fall garb because it was honestly pretty chilly – 60 degrees.

There was no option to make a reservation unless it was for 8pm or later, so we said “What the hey!” and just crossed our fingers.

We were hungry.

The only seating available when we got there was outdoor, and the wait for indoor seating was 45 minutes so again, we said “What the hey!” and ate outside.

We were hungry.

But it was cold.

The patio seating was beautiful, which made up for our chilly fingers.

Oh hey, CK Dad!

We started off by browsing the menu, which is laden with extensive and exclusively vegan items – I prepared, and looked at the menu ahead of time 🙂

Good prep, Chef Katelyn!

We started off by ordering the Vegan Mozzarella Sticks (made with Daiya! oh, a restaurant after my own heart).

IMG_2812

And one of the evening’s specials, Chili-Spiced Sweet Potato Fries served with a hot ‘n spicy raspberry dipping sauce (and topped with more Daiya! score).

CK Dad can fit a lot in his belly, so he also ordered a vegan Caesar salad complete with tofu croutons.

IMG_2816

I may have had a few bites 😉

These were all so delicious, I wasn’t sure if I would have room for my main dish!

What can I say?

We were hungry.

But lezzbeserious, there is always room for more good food.

I ordered the Olek’s Buffalo Stance, a buffalo-spiced tempeh sandwich with vegan bleu cheese sauce and greens pressed between two perfectly toasty and seed-sprinkled slices of their multi-grain bread.

Oh, it was to die.

IMG_2823

Because three pictures just isn’t enough.

IMG_2825

Now I’m craving it again..You’re killin me, smalls!

(Sandlot reference! Who caught it?)

IMG_2826

Gobble gobble.

Get in mah belly.

IMG_2831

I cannot even describe. It was my first experience with a vegan buff chick sandwich, and it was so good.

(yes, in this town it’s Buff Chick – we have buff chick pizza, sandwiches, wings..you name it)

I will be ordering it again. Next on my list is their Lentil Burger! CK Mom got it and had nothing but good things to say.

Dad got the Tilapia Croquettes, and Rebecca ordered the Buffalo Stance as well.

IMG_2828

Now, no good meal is ever complete without dessert – no matter how full you are 😉

Their desserts are all completely vegan and gluten-free, making them a score in my book!

Tonight’s offerings were a Chocolate Coconut Brownie Cake, a Lemon Raspberry Cheezecake, and Chocolate Mousse with seasonal fruit.

Move over, fruit, give me cake!

Since we never really go out to eat, we felt it would be okay to indulge 😉

And why else?

We were not that hungry.

We ordered both the Chocolate Brownie Cake and the Lemon Raspberry Cheezecake.

IMG_2848

Ohhh, so rich.

IMG_2850

Slight camera fail. It was getting dark – hello autumn 🙂

Both desserts were delicious, but the Chocolate Cake stole the show, as usual.

Chocolate gets me every time.

I really and truly believe that chocolate is the trump-all, cure-all.

But not the sugary, dairy-laden stuff – I’m talkin’ 80-100% cacao.

Oh yeah, I roll with the big boys.

IMG_2841

^^ Big Boys. Ha!

It’s loaded with antioxidants and endorphine-releasing goodness that makes you happy and helps your heart among extensive other benefits.

But, of course, everything in moderation 😉

chocolateREX_468x481

What’s your favorite healthy indulgence?

Chocolate is clearly one of mine, but I would also have to add bubble baths with some hot tea. Nothin’ beats that at the end of the day!

So, I hope you enjoyed the food porn!

I really hope to be able to post more often then, well, once a week.

I’ve missed blogging so much, it’s such a great form of release at the end of the day. Not being able to blog has made my mind even more cluttered than it already is from school! Not good.

But thank goodness for weekends!

I got to take a rest day today after yesterday’s workout, which was killer on my body after being sick in bed.

Booo, sick.

Church this morning really bounced me back to a place closer to the spiritual centeredness I aim for every day, but haven’t been able to find in the messiness of life and schedules.

So my goal is to have one post every day, no matter how short. Maybe this will be a good lesson in efficiency!

Question of the Day: How do you stay efficient and afloat under stress?

You can see some of my methods in my last post.

On my agenda tonight:

  • Pizza for dinner!
  • Studying for my first Econ test..oh boy.
  • Outlining a Bio chapter.
  • Getting to bed early birdy!

Have a great evening lovlies! See you later 🙂
