Sometimes I surprise myself.

Random fact of the day: if you have earphones on and you’re eating, you realize how obnoxiously noisy your mouth really is when you’re eating. Or maybe that’s just me.

Anyways, HAPPY MONDAY FRIENDS I hope it is sunny beautiful in your neck of the woods because it is nasty here:) Aka, snow, cold, dark. Typical Upstate New York.

IMG_4528

Clearly, Eeyore is not happy with this.

I’m with ya, bud.

Thank you for all of your sweet comments on my last post! I loved hearing about what happiness means to YOU, and what you thought of the recipe:)

So I have a bit of an announcement. I know I said that first Half Marathon would be July 23rd, but plans have changed a bit.

Let me tell you a little story.

Yesterday I set on the canal for my long run with the Padre and his Harvard buddy (both marathoners and buddy is an ultramarathoner), so I expected to run separately because I figured I wouldn’t be able to keep up.

I was wrong. These sons of guns intimidated me at first, but I was keeping up nearly effortlessly. Before I knew it, we had run ten miles. For the first time in my entire life.

No pictures of me because it was first thing in the morning and I was sweaty. Clayton (Harvard buddy) said I looked like I hadn’t even run yet, but obvs he was just trying to be nice. So here is a recycled picture of myself:)

I know don’t you just want to be me? Especially with my faces….good thing my friends know how to handle my crazy.

The stats:

IMG_4500

AH:) I still can’t believe I did it.

Next weekend’s long run is 12 miles. Then I taper down…

For my first Half Marathon on May 1st!!!!

Will you come cheer for me?! It is the Flower City Half Marathon in Rochester, NY, it would make my heart so happy if y’all came out to support me<3

Holy roley poley oley. I am so so so excited, and I will have the Padre by my side the whole time. I cannot wait to share this experience with my Dad. It sounds so cheesy, but he is my hero and I never would have started running without him.

After our run yesterday, we shared a special father-daughter moment hug. It was beautiful ❤

Later, I met up with Lisa at the gym for some upper-body weight lifting (I am getting BUFF) and abs/stretching. Then we went to the local health food store and bought out their Zevia and bread stash (best bread in. the. world. Only ingredients = Millet flour, zucchini, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, carrot juice, water, baking soda, and sea salt. BAM) and then made this monster.

IMG_4517

Props to Lisa for her amazing stash of extracts (ALMOND) and her Avocado of the Month Club membership. Fuerte avocados – sheBANG.

IMG_4515

I don’t even know what to call this. It kind of tasted like a cookie. Kind of like cake. Kind of like marzipan.

IMG_4513

Well, he’s green…how about the cookie monster?

IMG_4514

The Cookie Monster

Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado (flesh scooped out)
  • 2 scoops protein powder (we used Vega Sport Vanilla)
  • 1 tsp. xanthan gum
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 whole dropper-full of vanilla stevia (probably 20 drops)
  • a few drops of almond extract

Directions:

  1. Blend, baby, blend!
  2. Eat with a spoon. Otherwise we’ll look at you funny;)

IMG_4509

We ate these way too fast. But of course I was still hungs (hello 10 mile run) so we toasted some bread. Holy lord in heaven, best bread I have ever had. I will post a picture/my obsession with it soon<3

Gloooop!

IMG_4516

Hahaha okay that is all for now loves.

Some parting words:

GO ENTER LISA’S GIVEAWAY!! She is giving away SunButter (obsessed), Vega deliciousness, Dandy Blend, raw granola, and a book. I love her to the moon and back and you will too ❤

Put it on your calendars to travel to chilly willy Upstate New York to cheer on CK on May 1st!

I know today was supposed to be a post on “Why Syracuse?”, but that will come tomorrow:) Other things to come….

IMG_4520IMG_4519

How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Narsty.

Any advice for a half-marathoner newbie?

Pwease and thank you:)

What are your Monday plans?

Meeting up with some of my girls later tonight!

Love at Last Sight: Why the World Runs

Good morning chickadoodees! How are ya?

I am sleepy weepy, mainly because of the project (my Baby Book!) that caused my major lack of snoozage this weekend, but it’s totes fine because it is a-dorable. I am so excited to get it back so I can photograph it for you guys:)

Today I decided I should talk about a breakthrough I had this weekend.

So, here is my Tangent for the week:)

—————————————————————————————————

Like many people, I have had a “complicated” relationship with wellness. Particularly, with running.

When I first began running, it was in high school and purely for the purpose of being “skinny” like the other runners. Needless to say, I hated it. I hated how much it made me want to hurl, made my legs burn, and put me out of breath.

But, since I’ve switched to a cleaner diet, all of this has changed. Five miles is suddenly the “norm”, and it doesn’t seem that hard. I attribute my new endurance to my diet, but also to my Dad.

This weekend, I went on a run with my Dad on the canal. It was sunny, warm, and the water was sparkling. It was absolutely perfect.

I brought my new baby with me, and Padre pushed me the entire way. I told him I didn’t want to back down and walk at all, which was a big step for me. Running seven or eight miles on the treadmill is no big deal for me, but running outside is not the same thing. My body just was not ready for the outdoor runs, so when I would go with the Padre, my legs would feel stiff as tree trunks and I would have to walk a few times.

This was semi-disappointing to me, but once we got a good pace on, it became effortless. My form has changed drastically over the last few weeks, and that definitely helped. I have been following the Chi Running principles, landing on my middle/forefoot, leaning forward, and kicking my legs back. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my speed and how my joints can handle running. Patella-femural syndrome, my ASS. Ain’t got nothin’ on this girl!

We ended up doing just over seven miles, and at the end I was sprinting like it was nobody’s business. I don’t even know where the energy came from, all of a sudden my legs were propelling me so fast that the Padre was warning me not to trip:)

It felt so so good, and it was exactly what I needed. For weeks, I had been doubting myself, thinking that my knee would never get better, and that my muscles were just disagreeing with running. But, a few batches of hummus later, I finished my long run with the Padre after not running for more than a few weeks.

Brendan Stats:

IMG_4399

In my own mind, this is not a good pace. In fact, it makes me feel kind of like a slug. But what I have to remember is after injury, it’s baby steps at a time Smile

Breakthrough:

Then on Sunday, the Baby Sister wanted to go to the gymmy gym gym, so she used the machines indoors while I basked in the sunshine and ran along the canal. It was so sunny delicious gorgeous bloggies, you would have peed.

In my mind I promised myself to wait at least a mile before I looked at my pace and when I finally did, I almost cried. I have not gone faster than a nine minute mile (outdoors, on my own) in um, ages.

2011-04-03_15-08-24_610

After I saw that number, this hugh jass smile got plastered on my face and didn’t leave. I just soaked in the sun, the water, the grass, the fields, everything. Soon enough, my eyes were tearing up. This wasn’t the first time, but it was different.

I realized what I have been looking for this whole time. I’ve caught glimpses of it, but not until that moment did I really feel it.

I fell in love with running.

Not the legs or abs that comes with it, but the joy of propelling myself underneath the sunshine, and seeing all of the beautiful things around me. The scenery seemed to be so much more beautiful in my little sneaker-endorphine world.

I realized, that’s why the world runs. Because it gives us joy, it makes us strong, and it makes us appreciate the world and the people around us. When we hit the pavement, we are becoming closer to the Earth. I don’t care how many gadgets and gazoos you carry around when you’re running, but you’re becoming better friends with Mother Nature.

It’s a circle of appreciation that makes gives me so much joy to say that I will be running my first Half Marathon on July 23rd, 2011. A week later, I will be turning eighteen.

Here’s to a lifetime of joy 🙂

New Baby #2

Good morning bloggy boos! How are you?

Thank you for all of your favorite juicing combinations!! And for the congratulations on my first new baby of the week🙂 She has become a he, and been affectionally named Darren. Lisa, you know me too well:)

Also, I am so glad you guys are gaga for Bressert Kale Chips! There will be more variations this weekend, just you wait:)

Sorry about the absence over the last couple of days:( Being a senior can do that to ya. It’s a bit of senioritis (which the Padre understands, and responded to with, “It’s like running a marathon, sometimes you gotta take a break for a week” <—Love him) and a bit of the fact that I am hearing from a couple of my schools this weekend and the rest by April 1st.

Holy man.

I should be more nervous than I am, most likely, but I think it is good that I’m relaxed about this. What’s the point in worrying when it’s out of my hands, you know?

But anyways.

Yesterday I got a little present from the UPS guy.

2011-03-22_14-06-04_680

Well, more like a present from myself, to myself. Awe, Katelyn, you shouldn’t have;)

We should all feel loved (especially by ourselves!) sometimes. Okay all the time, cause honeybunches you are a pile of lovebunch. To get serious for a moment, just remember that your family, friends, and bloggy boos love you times a million. If you are struggling with loving yourself, don’t hesitate to shoot me an e-mail🙂 That is all for the seriousness. Back to business.

I bought myself a Garmin.

IMG_4333

Why? a. I cannot run outside without knowing how fast/far I am going, or I just get disoriented and feel super slow (way diff than a treadmill) and b. This will make my half marathon training (and future marathon training) a lot more effective. The best part is you can plan your workouts on the computer, and upload them to your watch. It beeps at every interval/pace/etc., which rocks my socks. Love you new workout buddy:)

I purchased this on Amazon last week for $127. Not a joke. So if you bought one for full price, you might as well be kicking yourself in the pants right now.

I am in love. This watch will be my fifth appendage for the rest of my life.

IMG_4346

Any name suggestions? I am thinking this one should be Brendan after Brendan Brazier, so I can channel his inner beast.

IMG_4335

^^Just TRY and tell me that picture doesn’ t make your brain hurt a little.

Obviously as soon as my new toy came, I had to hit the pavement. The Padre asked if I wanted to go running with him, so obvs I jumped right on that. What’s a better way to try out my new toy than to get my butt kicked by my marathoner Dad? That’s right, nothing.

So, I got my game face on..

IMG_4328

And kicked some asphalt.

p.s. Doesn’t it look like I photoshopped myself into that picture? I’m floating basically.

IMG_4351

Roughly five and a half miles, including approx two miles of walking because my knee began to hurt. No injuries around here people, we are all about prevention! I am not going to get an ouchy knee right when I get my brand new toy, oh no I am running in the ice and snow no matter what (by the way Mother Nature I am not happy with you, why did you take away our sunshine?!).

When I got home, I had a quick smoothie and then went to my doctor’s checkup, running clothes, Garmin, and all. I’m pretty sure they appreciated it:)

Then I came home and had some goodies. I am pretty sure my stomach is bottomless. So, I had breakfast for dinner (aka Brinner). You crave what you crave, people!

2011-03-21_15-08-00_165

A Cookie Dough Bowl con bananas, carrots on the side. Addiction.

And some Kelp Noodles! I recently found these at Weggies, and basically peed my pants. Even our health food superstore in town doesn’t have these. I am impressed once again:) (bee tee dubs we could still use a Whole Foods or TJ’s around here!)

2011-03-21_20-21-05_693

These are so. good. Crunchy, mild flavor (takes on the flavor of whatever you put them in), and so refreshing. A+!

I enjoyed them with some marinara and nooch, as well as on my salads. I am not going to show you pictures because it looks fugly, but isn’t fugly food the most delicious?:)

That is all for today chickadees! See you tomorrow:)

Do you have a Garmin? Any tips/name suggestions?

We should make a Garmin club and all go running togeths. Running party at my place, mmk?!

Seasoned runners: any tips for running in general and training?

Fill me in, love doves!

Favorite new food finds?

Kelp noodles:) I am always up for a new product! (as long as I can pronounce the ingredients, and there are as few as poss. No HFCS for this girl.)

why not thrive? + socca to me!

Good morning rays of sunshine:) How are you?

Okay so this morning I have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. The Padre is going on the Brendan Brazier Thrive Diet for 30 days!!

GUYS I AM SO EXCITED this means the Padre will be eating just. like. me. I have never been so excited in my entire life.

Aren’t you proud of him?!

This is going to SKYROCKET his running performance and recovery, plus it will help him when he goes back to work (April 1st!). Padre will soon be eating a Cookie Dough Bowl and a Quinoa-Hummus-Raisin-Balsamic Bowl. Oh yes. Just you wait.

Here is a rough meal plan I made for him:

Thrive Meal Plan

Breakfast:

In a bowl:

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 tbsp. almond butter
  • 1 tbsp. chia or ground flax seeds
  • Fruit
  • Almond/hemp/coconut milk, etc.

Or

In a bowl:

  • 1 scoop Vega protein powder (black canister in snack cabinet)
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp. flax seeds
  • ½ cup – 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1 tbsp. carob powder (optional)
  • Non-dairy milk

Or

In a bowl:

  • 2 tbsp. almonds
  • 1 tbsp. chia or ground flax seeds
  • 1 tbsp. hemp protein
  • Fruit
  • Non-dairy milk
  • Carob powder (optional)

Or

Smoothie (blender)

  • Recipes in Thrive Diet Recipe section
    • Generally, include lots of fruit, a few tablespoons of seeds and nut butter, and some hemp protein powder.

Lunch/Dinner:

  • Big salad (romaine/spinach/mixed greens) or veggies
  • 1 cup cooked pseudograins (quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth)
  • 1 cup lentils/beans/hummus
  • Handful of seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, chia, flax, sesame, hemp) or almonds
  • Top all with balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice, and hempseed oil or EFA oil blend
  • For other ideas, there are fantastic recipes in the Thrive Diet book.

Snacks:

  • Energy Bars
  • Vegetables with hummus
  • Fruit with a handful of almonds
  • Smoothie (see Thrive Diet recipes)
  • ½ cup quinoa mixed with ½ cup lentils and your choice of dressing (marinara tastes great!), with veggies
  • Banana with almond butter or handful of almonds

Pre-Workout Nutrition:

  • About an hour before working out, Energy Pudding is best. In mini-chop, combine:
    • 1 banana
    • ¼ cup dates (about 6-8)
    • 2 tbsp. ground flaxseed
    • ½ tbsp. coconut oil (cereal cabinet)
    • 1 tbsp. carob (optional)
    • Splash of water
  • Immediately before working out, if necessary, eat carbohydrates. This includes all fruits, mainly bananas, dates, and other dried fruits.

Post-Workout Nutrition:

  • After a workout, a smoothie is best. Within 45 minutes, ingest a high-carbohydrate drink with small amounts of protein and fat. The general smoothie recipe is:
    • 1 banana
    • ¼ cup dates
    • 1 tbsp. hemp protein
    • 1 tsp. EFA oil blend
    • 1 tsp. dulse flakes
    • Water
    • Grated ginger (optional)
  • One to two hours after your smoothie, eat a high-protein meal, such as the lunch and dinner suggestions above.

SO this means he will also be eating some of the food I cook. Sharing is caring🙂

Last week during a day when I got to come home for lunch, I (successfully) made socca! My first attempt was rather um burnt, but it’s fine this one turned out amaze and tasted even better.

IMG_4119

And since I can’t eat things just plain (um hello, Quinoa-Hummus-Raisin-Balsamic Bowl), I had to make it socca pizza. And let me tell you, it was so good I ate it for lunch AND dinner.

IMG_4117

So make this tonight, or you will be kicking yourself in the pants when you actually do try it and realize you should have made it sooner.

IMG_4113

You have been warned.

IMG_4114

Socca Pizza

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup garbanzo bean flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
  • Pinch of stevia
  • Marinara sauce
  • Nooch (nutritional yeast)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and grease a round 9-inch cake pan with EVOO.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine garbanzo bean flour, salt, stevia, and some hefty shakes of Italian seasoning.
  3. Add water and oil, and mix thoroughly until all clumps are gone.
  4. Pour into your cake pan and sprinkle with more Italian Seasoning.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, or until top is firm.
  6. Let cool in the pan for a few minutes, and then invert and let it cool on a cooling rack, or upside down on a plate.
  7. Cut and top with marinara, nooch, and spinach lettuce or other veggies if desired.
  8. Enjoy!

IMG_4118

This was absolutely perfect.

I was expecting a funny flavor (pre-baking, the batter tastes horrendous), but it was so. good. Subtly sweet, yet savory at the same time.

IMG_4116

I topped mine with Amy’s Low Sodium Marinara and nooch.

IMG_4120

On my Pooh plate, obvs.

Can I just eat this every day for the rest of my life?

IMG_4121

Sooo dense. My fave. Don’t give me fluff, give me substance.

IMG_4125IMG_4126IMG_4127

Devoured.

So as I said, make this tonight. Don’t be kicking yourself in the pants later on;)

See you tomorrow loves!

Have you ever tried socca?

YESSS thank goodness I finally made it!

Have you ever helped a parent or family member to eat differently?

My sister went vegan thanks to my influence, and now I’m helping the Padre maximize his marathon training!

What are your favorite pre- and post-exercise snacks?

See above:)

Because who doesn’t like a warm batch of cookies.

Good morning chickadoodees! How are you on this fine Indulgence Friday morning?

I am dandylicious, mainly because I baked up a storm in my kitchen last night.

IMG_4148

You see, my AP Bio teacher has been an amazing teacher all year, and someone who I’ve enjoyed talking to about the Padre, running, healthy food, almond butter, and nutrition.

IMG_4128

To say the least, he basically rocks my socks. And through all of these hard times the past few months, he has taken tons of time to meet with me during my free periods and go over things from class that I didn’t understand, since many times it was not exactly easy to stay focused. (If you would like to know more about my last few months, you can read about them here.)

IMG_4138

So, what better way to thank someone than to bake them some yummy deliciousness?

IMG_4153

Um, I don’t really think there is.

Cookies are always the way to go.

IMG_4144

Obviously I had to concoct something brand-spankin’-new. Which meant thinking of one of the most delicious combinations known to man, and creating it in moist, chewy cookie form.

I would call this one a “great success” (name that movie!).

IMG_4143

These are moist, flavorful, and most of all, nutrition- and protein- packed. And as usual, they are gluten-free, vegan, and completely sugar-free. So basically dessert is okay any time of the day.

And I’m okay with that.

IMG_4139

This one’s for you, Doc!

IMG_4154

Chocolate-Covered Banana Cookies

Adapted from my Orange-Cranberry and Raspberry Amaretto Cookies

Makes 12 Large Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup almond flour (almond meal)
  • 1/3 cup quinoa flour
  • 1/4 cup quinoa flakes
  • 1/3 + 1/4 cup garbanzo bean flour
  • 1/4 cup NuStevia Baking Blend
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tbsp. chocolate extract
  • 1/4 cup non-dairy milk (I used unsweetened So Delicious Coconut)
  • 1 block of chocolate, roughly chopped (I used Baker’s unsweetened)
  • cacao nibs, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and grease a cookie sheet with coconut oil.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. In a smaller bowl, mash one of your bananas until it is almost liquidy, and then add the extractives and 1/4 cup of non-dairy milk.
  4. Add wet to dry, and mix thoroughly. Add more non-dairy milk as needed to make a cookie dough that is stirrable, not tough or stiff. You want your dough to be wet enough to spread itself into a cookie shape, but firm enough to hold its shape once plopped down.
  5. Fold in your chopped chocolate. Peel your second banana and chop into small pieces. Fold into the cookie dough.
  6. Scoop dough by the tablespoon onto your cookie sheet and sprinkle with cacao nibs.
  7. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until a toothpick poked into the center comes out clean.
  8. Try not to burn your tongue eating one of these straight out of the oven.

IMG_4143

Okay I ate approx. two of these straight out of the oven. Sorry DSmith, had to taste test Winking smile

But lezzbehonest, these were the most moist, delicious cookies I have ever tasted. The combo of the sweet, baked banana and the shockingly bitter chocolate makes for a killer combo!

It is basically like banana bread in cookie form, but better. And there’s chocolate. And we all know everything is better with chocolate:)

IMG_4137

Since they were such a hit with (my tummy) and the fam, I am making another batch later this afternoon. So Hollie, be sure to demand one of these cookies tomorrow!

I love Indulgence Friday🙂

See you tomorrow bloggy boos!! Indulge big today:)

Something to Think:

Today in the locker room at my gym, I heard a woman with her daughter and remarked how blissful it is to be a child. She responded with, “Yeah, well I’m a slave!”. For a moment I thought she was joking, but she looked honestly upset. Are some parents actually resentful of their children? I know this is not something I have ever come across. Do any of you have some thoughts on this?

How are you celebrating Indulgence Friday?

Tell me about your yumssss!:)

What is your favorite cookie flavor?

Currently, this one. Banana bread in cookie form, plus chocolate. It does not get much better than that my friends.

How do you usually thank people?

I love baking because you get to lick the bowl and “taste test” Winking smile

p.p.s. I just realized I sounded WAY more serious than usual today. Maybe it is because I am getting ready for college decisions to come my way? Lots of big life decisions are coming up in the next two weeks, and I am both excited and completely freaked out. Wish me luck love doves:)

Don’t You Want Me? + Vermont Food!

Hi love doves!! How are you?

I am not going to lie, I am rather sleepy and on a slight raisin burnout. I do not know how it happened, I am freaking out basically so I am laying off the raisins for the day. Tomorrow I will be back to my raisin-inhaling tendencies.

Yesterday I got home from Vermont and hit up the produce section of Weggie’s, and then put together a salad, quinoa, and some cinnamon-raisin socca that was a giant FAIL. Totally fine though, at least it tasted good:) Expect a recipe coming your way soon!

Pee ess (ew never typing that again), be sure to send in your Mission: I Feel Pretty pictures!! I am going to do a post soon with some of the ones I have received recently so don’t wait!

Slash I LOVED hearing about all of your addictions! (but not to drugs, thank goodness!) You can hear about my latest one here🙂 Oh and that is also where you can see hilarious pictures of me, myself, and I as well as some randoms I found around Burlington. Have a looksky!

Anywhos, the title is because I am OBSESSED with Glee. Like, it’s unhealthy. Just watch this video and try to tell me you are not obsessed too.

I have said this a million times and I will say it again. I AM MARRYING BLAINE he is so gorgeous, I will turn him from gay to straight, he can serenade me every night:) Will you all come to our wedding and bring me a Vitamix present?

IMG_4024

Lock me up and throw away the keyyyyy:) I would die for one of these babies! I told the Padre I would not mind getting one as a graduation present:)

Okay, now onto the Vermont food! Get ready to lick the screen.

—————————————————————————————————

Burlington Food:

Dinner on Thursday was had at Zebby & Elf’s Stone Soup.

IMG_3917

We walked in to the smells of yummy deliciousness, happy customers, vibrant owners, and delicious baked goodies🙂

IMG_3916

The atmosphere was nothing short of warm and friendly. I could have eaten every meal of my life here!

The food consisted of a serve-your-own hot bar and salad bar. Below is the salad bar, I forgot a picture of the hot bar:(

IMG_3919

The Padre loaded up on tons of food, as per usual, and ordered a giant tuna sandwich to go with this plate full.

IMG_3918

This is one of those times I was a man and could eat millions of foot long subs and never be full. It is fine though my tummy never gets sick of almond butter:)

My plate consisted of greens, veg, steamed kale, sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, falafel casserole (ohhhmaigawd, to DIE for), and completely covered in balsamic (I know I am cheating).

IMG_3923

Owner Zebby doubted my ability to eat this whole thing, but by George, I did it! He should come see everything I eat in a day, somehow my tiny little self is able to eat ginormous portions of anything and everything. I have been dubbed as the “bottomless pit” among my friends;)

Bee tee dubs, Zebby was a riot, and happens to have grown up in my home town! What a small world:)

Then we walked through the Church Street Market, which is still donning gorgeous Christmas lights!

IMG_3924

Please note that this was pre-blizzard. More on that later.

Friday Breakfast:

Breakfast on Friday was had in the hotel room, which was complete with a full kitchen, two TV’s (with cable! I was in heaven), and a hugh jass bathroom and king bed and bedroom. Lurve:)

2011-02-26_10-53-09_428

Perfect for the crazykins in me that brought my whole fridge from home. No big. Come on people, it would NOT be realistic for me to go out and buy some food every single time I need to eat (which is like every two hours basically).

The bowls in the cupboard were too small for my cookie dough so I used a mixing bowl.

IMG_3926

In case you couldn’t tell, I dig the whole orangey thing that “color boost” in Live Writer does. At least I look tanner:)

IMG_3925

Whaddup gangstaaaaz. Topped with bluebs, rasps, and tons of coconut. More was sprinkled after all the berries were mixed in. Please ignore the fact that it looks like there is poop in the bowl mmk.

Friday Lunch:

Lunch was had at the University Marche on UVM campus, and enjoyed with Lauren from RunYogaRepeat! She was such a sweetheart, and answered all of my questions about UVM! Oh and obviously we talked about everything from green smoothies to boyfriends.

Isn’t she adorable?!

IMG_3932

She had a yummy deliciousness noodle bowl that I wish I knew the name of (it was vegan), and I noshed on a Butternut Squash-Leek Soup and a salad con garbanzo beans and almonds.

IMG_3933

IMG_3934

Clearly taken once I was almost done and realized we were too caught up in talking to actually take pictures of things. Like our food:)

Not going to lie, this was not very satisfying! If you lived with me you would marvel at how much I eat in a day. I went back to the hotel room and ate a giant quinoa-lentil-raisin-balsamic bowl. It was glorious.

Tummy = satisfied🙂

Unfortunately, the animal-free options at the caf were not many, but that is not TOO big of a deal since I am planning on buying and preparing all of my own food next year.

Friday Dinner:

For those of you that guessed I got sushi/Asian food, you were right!

Dinner was had at Asiana Noodle House, and it was delicious. I think I died and went to heaven. But not before I had issues separating my chopsticks.

Please tell me why I am so hot.

Then we drank ginger tea, and BOY does that stuff clear your nostrils!

MUCH better:)

Then our food came!

I ordered the Vegan Chirashi (Shitake Mushroom, Sweet potato, Seaweed, Oshinko, Kampyo, Tofu, Yamagobo, Asparagus ,Wakame, Spinach, Avocado, Cucumber and Tofu skin), with brown rice and a side of steamed veg.

I am not going to lie, I was very confused when they brought this giant bowl out to me.

Where was my sushi?!

Apparently I need more education in ethnic food, because the rice was on zee bottom.

IMG_3995

This was so pretty though, I could barely bring myself to eat it! Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous?!

IMG_3997

It was delicious, nutritious, and way satisfying. Full, happy belly🙂

Padre ordered Crab Rolls in rice netting, which looks SO cool I am not going to lie. And he also got the Seafood Salad:

The Baby Sister and mi Madre ordered noodle bowls with buckwheat soba noodles, lemon dressing, and tofu. Sorry buddies no picture!

Then we stomped around a bit more and did some window shopping. Look out for the birthday pwesent post that I mentioned earlier🙂

AHHH absolutely gowagous!

p.s. See the store “Kiss the Cook” on the right?! Yeah I spent all night there basically it’s fine. Oh and looking at wellies🙂

That’s all for this morning chickadees! I’m off to church, then hitting up the gym and getting some homework done.

It is the last day of February break! I will be very sad to see it go, and not so happy to be waking up at 5:30 again every morning. It went by WAY too quickly!

See you tomorrow dolls!

What is your favorite kind of ethnic food?

I would have to say Mediterranean food. There is a local place that I could eat at every. single. night. Come visit me and we will go there mmk:)

What are your favorite salad toppings? Please tell! I need some new ideas:)

I usually roll with red pepper, tomatoes, carrots, cukes, green beans, broc, balsamic, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, hummus, beans, quinoa, what have you! Lately I am especially digging chopped red onion:)

Have you sent in your Mission: I Feel Pretty picture yet?! If not, get on that!

Imeannn, I just strongly suggest it;)

I think I have a banana addiction.

Seriously, I had like three bananas last night and probably three or four today already. I have an issue, we need to add to my addictions. Currenly, the list contains:

  • RAISINS
  • Bananas
  • Oh and all food in general.

Yup yup, don’t get food near my face it will be gone in two seconds flatsky.

Anywhos, how are you?! I am daaaandy, I am absolutely in love with Burlington!! I missed New England so much, I grew up in New Hampshire so it was like being home again:)

Okay so I am in a giggling crazykins mood today so I am going to show you all of the funny pictures taken thus far on our trip. All of the pretty, sentimental, artistic pictures will come at a later date. Check back tomorrow for food porn that will make you want to lick the screen.

Omigahhhh my HUSBAND. I do not care that he is a jerk (sorry Mike but it is true), in my fantasy parallel universe he is a romantic, sweet boyfriend that gives me foot massages because he wants to, not because I jumped up and down saying “Pweetty pwease?!” with the sad puppy dog face obv.

Sad face because I did not get to meet up with all of the lovely bloggers that wanted to grab some yummy deliciousness to eat. I’m sorry darlings:( Next time, I promise!!

This sad face may look sad but to me it is hilarious. You have no idea how hard it was for me to keep a sad face and take a picture of it, think of the type of person that is just laughing so hard at a totally inappropriate time and can’t hide it. Yup that’s me:)

Oh, meet my knight in shining rusty armour.

Be jealous, he cleans up reaaaaal nice:)

Hahaha okay these are not that funny but I like anything that is spelled funny. Oh and when my birthday comes feel free to buy these for me and send them in a pretty package wrapped in pink ribbon mmk:) Come back after the food post for all of the fun items I would like for my birfday, it is a very important post so do not miss it.

I feel like a terrible human being for thinking this is funny because it raises money for charity, but how can you not giggle at the sight of a bag that says “urea” on it?! In case you never took a biology class, urea = pee. So you are walking around with a bag that says PEE on it. Just saying.

Hahaha okay this is my new favorite thing. It is created for the sole purpose of protecting bananas when they are in our bags. Okay so we have all had at LEAST one time when we have found a smooshed gooey banana in the bottom of our bags (it has happened to all of us). This is perfect for my banana addiction. You will see this on my birthday list mmk.

Vermont is so not weird!! It is so cute but I saw this and I thought it was hilarious because it is just as obnoxious as I am, maybe Vermont really is weird but I don’t notice because I am exponentially weirder? I knew it was love at first sight<3

Do NOT get this for me for my birthday!! I will definitely laugh very hard at your humor but I would never use this thing in my life. No thanks chickadees, I prefer tamps, please and thanks!

HAHAHA my funny face:) You will be seeing this again tomorrow in the food post. Can you guess what kind of food it was? More specific you are the more brownie points you get:)

Outtake, the awesome waitress got in the way. It’s fine though the tea was good and this made my Mom laugh:)

Pimp my dino.

Pimp my ride?

^^^ Werd. PacSun said it! I am SO ready for spring clothes!

I saw this candy and Combo machine and I thought of my girl Janae! Girl now we can get our candy on the go! Slash they should put these along marathon courses, we would so benefit from these!

Hahaha the Padre. I love him times a million, you should know that he posed for this himself I did not ask him to do it. He is a riot, you all should come to the CK house for a visit and enjoy his company, he makes crazykins faces like I do. It runs in the family:)

Just for humor’s sake, a second one:

I lurve the commercials that always have the mannequins talking to each other..this made me laugh because he was pretending to be a mannequin instead of them being people. Tricky….

Okay now I am going to go eat more bananas and get my sweat on at the hotel gym before we hit the road to go home:) I am happy to go home because I love the comfort of my own beddy bye but I am not going to lie, I am going to miss Vermont! I am a New England girl at heart<3

See you from the home fort! Have a good Sattyday lovies:)

p.s. Yesterday was Indulgence Friday and will show you tomorrow how I indulged!:)

What is the funniest sign/bumper sticker/item you have seen recently?

JERSEY SHORE 24 MILES

Do you make crazykins faces? What’s your favorite one?

Hahaha that is a tough choice. You would have to live with me for a day to understand:)

What are you addicted to? (please do not say drugs)

BANANAS and RAISINS. Did I mention that the container of raisins I brought from Weggies is half way done and I am the only person eating from it..yeah it’s a delicious problem.
