My Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard

Good morning booboos! I hope everyone had a rockin’ Indulgence Friday Smile

(ew, sorry for the baby talk, I am writing this at approx. 11:45 PM because I am all chocolateified-up from the recipe I am going to reveal to you, but of course I will schedule this to post in the morning so you all don’t think I’m a crazykins even though you know I am one) <—my grammar is really good, can you tell?

Mine was spent eating and watching Lie to Me and Glee on Hulu.

Can I just say that Hulu is the best invention ever, I think if I could pick one birthday present it would be to have unlimited access to Hulu and all shows on demand fo FREE because I am a cheapo.

Actually that is a lie, I would want a lifetime supply of raisins and a juicer because I am too cheapo to buy one for myself.

Slash I think I will have to do a whole post on my obsession with Hulu and all of the wonderful things it brings into my life, keep your eye out for that one, I have a feeling it will be a this-will-make-you-pee-your-pants kind of post.

—————————————————————————————————

First of all, I have to say that my Grandma is the cutest thing in the world, I love her and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside when she sends me cards (especially when she sends me a whole dollar, that makes me jump for joy because I can buy penny candy at Walgreens:)).

IMG_3613IMG_3614

It makes my heart smile:)

If you imagine me with my excited face you will understand the emotion that comes with cards from my Grandma, she is the cutest woman alive, I mean look at her!

IMG_0386

Just TRY and tell me that is not the most adorable woman you have ever seen, I dare you. She is even more of a munchkin than I am clocking in at about four foot something or other and it makes me feel tall:)

IMG_0387

What a cutie patootie!

—————————————————————————————————

So, since it was Indulgence Friday, I obviously had to make some yummy deliciousness. This time it came in the form of an old frosty favorite, healthified.

IMG_3602IMG_3604

As a kid, did you ever have the McDonald’s chocolate milkshakes? I used to LOVE those things, but they were so sugar-laden and full of fat that my smart parents only let me have one once every few years (yes, years).

As a child, I didn’t exactly appreciate this lack of ice creamy deliciousness, but now my cholesterol can thank them:)

And now, your cholesterol can thank me!

Healthified Chocolate Milkshake

Slightly sweet with a mild banana flavor, this milkshake tastes just like (and better!) than its not-so-healthy counterpart.

Makes one large shake.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 heaping tablespoon raw cacao (or cocoa/carob powder)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. stevia
  • 2 giant handfuls of ice
  • Cacao nibs, chocolate chips, more cacao powder (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Combine milk, banana, cacao, stevia, and vanilla in your blender on its highest power.
  2. Add ice cubes, a few at a time, while the blender is running.
  3. Pour into a (large) glass, and serve immediately.

I garnished mine with more cacao nibs, but chocolate chips, cacao/cocoa/carob powder, or fruit would also be delicious!

IMG_3603

And the best part? If you use raw cacao, the entire smoothie is completely raw!

Chocolate craving: satisfied.

—————————————————————————————————

I have been getting some questions lately about my raw habits as of late, and I’m not going all dehydrator on you guys (even though I would absolutely love to have one, but then again I am too cheapo to buy one), but I am eating all of my fruits and veggies raw (besides brussels sprouts, which I lightly steam), as well as eating sprouted grains and beans.

However, I am also eating lots of cooked goodness like beans (hummus!) and quinoa and amaranth. And surprisingly, it’s so much easier than eating all cooked food! The prep time is so much smaller, and I feel so rejuvenated every time I eat:)

Also, please do not be offended if I do not respond to comments very quickly! I have addressed this before, but I just feel so bad and I love you all so much! I am getting back to comments and e-mails as quickly as possible, but the student life ain’t easy:) I’m a busy bee, chickadees!

On another note, it made me giggle and smile ear to ear to hear that some of you are catching onto my catch-phrases! (like bloggity blog, lazy-loo, snackety snack, sprouty sprouts..you get the idea) Keep spreadin’ the CK Vocab love, boos!

That’s all for this morning love doves! I’m off to hit the gym and then get some work done. Have an awesome Sattyday! Smile

Does chocolate make you hyper?

Yes, do not get around me after I have had some chocolate unless you are looking for a party.

Are you obsessed with Hulu? What are your favorite shows?

Lie to Me, Glee, Greek, Desperate Housewives, and Grey’s. And OCCASIONALLY The Bachelor if I’m feeling extra indulgent:)

What is your favorite flavor of milkshake?

Chocolate, hands down. Vanilla and strawberry are just gross.

Do your grandparents send you cute cards?

Yes, I keep every single one of them, they make me smile:)

Survival 101

Good morning chickadees, and HAPPY INDULGENCE FRIDAY🙂 I hope you’re all as excited for the weekend as I am!

I loved hearing about all of your gardening skills (or lack thereof;)), as well as all of your favorite foods!

Update: my sprouty sprouts have sprouted! The quinoa is absolutely delicious and fresh-tasting, and the beans are crunchy crunch. Success!

So, I’ve had a couple of crises over the last couple of days.

Allow me to explain.

Crisis #1:

Most of you probably heard my distress call on Twitter recently:

twitter

Uh yeah, at approx. 9 PM, my furnace decided to kick the bucket.

So, what do you do when your thermostat says 62 degrees Fahrenheit and the Isaac heating guy won’t be getting there until after midnight?

You make yourself a hugh jass pot of tea and put your redonkulously thick sleeping bag under your sheets and two blankets.

IMG_3600

That would be the BEST sleeping bag known to man. Go find it, it is made by Coleman and the inside is made of flannel:) Yeah, flannel.

This thing is so comfy and warm I had absolutely no problem NOT taking it back up to the attic once the furnace was fixed. It is like a cocoon. You do not mess with something that comfy.

Crisis #1: averted.

Crisis #2:

Mother Nature’s monthly gift was having me craving carbs and chocolate like a beeyotch.

So, what do I do?

Eat a million bananas and have a Hot Chocolate Cookie Dough Bowl for breakfast.

Duh.

IMG_3598

Whoever said chocolate was a dessert was seriously misinformed. Chocolate for breakfast is ALWAYS okay:)

I made the usual mix with a serving of sprouted quinoa instead of the oats, raw cacao instead of the Chocolate Amazing Grass, and added a teaspoon of freeze-dried acai powder.

Topped with bloobs, rasps, and tons of cacao nibs.

Chocolate craving: satisfied:)

Crisis #3:

We were all out of raisins. For a WHOLE TWO DAYS.

If you’re new to the bloggity blog, I have a raisin addiction. They are more of a staple in my diet than vegetables.

I literally eat redonk amounts of them every single day, typically at every meal and usually combined with hummus, quinoa, and balsamic (try that combo now, you can thank me later).

I don’t think I have ever been in such dire need of a certain ingredient in my entire life, I was freaking out and quite sure that the world was going to end on the day that I ran out of raisins (since having three giant containers of them in my pantry is never enough).

So, I tried to sub chopped prunes for the raisins in my usual quinoa-hummus-balsamic bowls.

It was awful.

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME PEOPLE!

But it’s not like that stopped me from going to town on a container of prunes (not mixed with quinoa, hummus, or balsamic, no worries:)).

Lesson learned: nothing can ever replace raisins, do not be fooled by the dried-fruit nature of prunes and dates, they are posers.

Crisis #4:

Having the sniffles and being tired is no bueno.

So, what do I do?

Make a hugh jass green smoothie (tutorial coming soon!) and a salad beasty, add some delicious hummus-quinoa bowls, and call it a day.

IMG_3363

IMG_3340

Sorry kiddos, ugly picture but at least it tasted good:) Besides, fugly food is always the yummiest, right?;)

Topped with hummus because it is the best salad dressing.

Spinach topped with artichoke hearts, red pepper, carrots, and hummus.

Oh, and that napsky I took might have helped a little too:)

Did I mention I love my vaporizer?

IMG_3218

Steaaaaam:)

Lesson learned: a green smoothie and a salad beast a day keep the doctor away:)

—————————————————————————————————

That’s all for this morning lovlies! Indulge big tonight, and I’ll bring you a deliciously decadent recipe, so stay tuned!

Has your furnace ever broken? Did you layer a million blankets like I did?

Yes, please do NOT remind me, I was cuddling with my space heater basically.

What’s your favorite way to tame a chocolate craving?

Hot chocolate, chocolate mousse, anything topped with chocolate chips:)

How do you beat the Mother Nature’s Monthly Gift blues? Or if you’re a guy, how do you treat your girlfriend like a princess when she is acting like a poopy grumplekins?

CHOCOLATE, tea, sleep, and Hulu!

Let Your Garden Grow

Good morning love doves! Happy almost-FridaySmile

I’m so glad that y’all love carbs as much as I do! In case you missed it, I wrote a poem for carbs. You should probably check it out. You might pee yourself.

Just sayin’.

AAANYwho, ever since I’ve been going high-raw, I’ve been interested in funky sounding things like…sprouting.

So, I decided to take it for a whirl and try it for myself!

IMG_3567

Black quinoa and azuki beans.

IMG_3568

First, I soaked them both (uncovered) in their jars overnight.

Then, I covered each jar with a piece of cheesecloth, rinsed the quinoa and beans (to get rid of the digestive inhibitors that are released during soaking), and then propped the jars up at a 45-degree angle in a pan.

About every few hours, I rinse them and invert them again. This keeps them moist so the sprouty sprouts do their growing! Smile

IMG_3571

See the little bean sprout? ^^

Can I just say that sprouting is SO fun. I love seeing the little sprouties do their thang!

WAY more entertaining than cooking in a pot, let me tell you.

I feel like a gardener:)

And I love the crunch of sprouts – it’s so refreshing.

IMG_3569

IMG_3578IMG_3583IMG_3586

Want to try sprouting?

Here are some tips to get you started!

IMG_3588

Sprouting is a great method for the lazy-loos (like me), and those that like crunchiness.

The main appeal of sprouting, however, comes from the fact that everything remains raw and it much more easily assimilated in the raw, sprouted form.

The digestive inhibitors are released and washed away, and the starches, fats, and proteins are converted into their simplest, most easily digestible and usable forms.

That means less stress on your digestive system, and more energy for you to kick toosh on the Dreadmill!

Plus, I can never get enough crunchy goodness.

Have you ever tried sprouting?

YES, this is fun:)

Do you have a garden, or do you grow any of your own plants?

No, I am a lazy-loo, but in the spring I might bust one out:)

What are your favorite grains/beans/nuts?

For grains, I luuurve quinoa and amaranth. Garbanzos because of hummus, but azuki because they are yummy. And almonds are my favorite!:)

That’s all for this morning loves! Have a great Thursday Smile
